when i set up my season mode, i have set my period length for 13 minutes. when the games start the periods are 20 mins. every time i go back and check my settings, it still says that they are set for 13 mins. help!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it will still say 20 minutes but the timer counts down quicker and you only play 13 minutes...

Correct. The period length will adjust according to how much time you select, but the clock will show 20 mins.
