So What's The Real Beef With VC?

Alright, I know the majority of posters here HATE VC. What I wanna know is, why?

I hear some people say because we don't make enough on a game per game basis in MyCareer. Well, while I agree that the price of accessories is grossly overpriced, I can realistically level up my player to a high 80s overall by mid season, and to the 90s by the end of the year. It really isn't a marathon to get VC for your player if you play good each game as your minutes start to increase. Unless you're one of those guys that only play key games.

Now, VC in my team. Do you guys hate it because 2K gives people the option of basically buying legend teams with real money, or do you hate it because you actually have to use VC for packs?

I won't even go into VC on blacktop mode, because some of the prices for those players are ridiculous. I'm curious to hear though, do you hate VC and why??

Re: So What's The Real Beef With VC?

!st of all I have to tell that I don't hate VC, i hate the direction the game is taking since they introduced VC:

- 1. This is NBA 2K, not Farmville, Angry Birds or any given free-to-play game where the only money income they have is microtransactions. This is supposed to be a 70€ AAA game, so if they want to make more money just release decent DLCs just like other companies (or even 2K with Borderlands 2) do. What they are doing now is earn money with things that were free in previous years (legends, shoes, accessories...)

- 2. It's funny to hear that they haven't included a 30 team control association in NG because they haven't had time to do it, and now you see that they had it to spread all that VC stuff all over the game. Matter of priorities I guess.

Re: So What's The Real Beef With VC?

the issue is the amount of vc earned per game in any mode vs how much everything costs. sure you can level up mp to 80 relatively quick as long as you dont want to buy anything else. a hat is like what, 600 vc or something? so i have to play 2 solid games in mp just to buy a hat. and if i want that hat i cant level mp up for those 2 games. want a sig shot? depending on whos it is that could be another 1k vc. so 5 more good mp games with no increases in attributes just so i can adjust my shot style.

i think they need to do a few things with vc.

they need to have vc separate from skill points. this way you can level up your player and still buy stuff.

make vc only come from your salary, and make it realistic in the amount you get (500vc/year for a first round draft pick is clearly not enough: 1 years salary should buy more than a hat).

separate vc between different modes. mp vc shouldnt be carried over to myteam, etc.

if i buy something like a sig shot for one mp, it should carry over for any mps i have. i understand clothing being separated, but its too much to have to buy a shot more than once, since it doesnt have any effect outside of personal preference. or even better, just unlock sig moves from the start, and tie things like dunk and payup packages to attributes. sig shots and free throws should be unlocked from the start without having to buy them.

(just noticed the typo, but im going to leave it because it seems fitting )

Re: So What's The Real Beef With VC?

I guess some of my dislike of VC comes from how small an amount you get after each game.

But my real gripe with it is in MyCareer with contracts. It just feels lame signing a 2 year, 500 VC contract. And then when it's time to negotiate a new one, I don't know what is fair or unfair in terms of VC. For example, I know if I'm worth a 3 year, 30 million dollar contract and a team is trying to lowball me. I don't know what a 2 year, 300 VC contract translates to in real money, so I don't know if I'm being ripped off or not.

I would prefer VC be used just for MyTeam and 2K bring back real money for contracts like 2K12.

Re: So What's The Real Beef With VC?

First i'll answer your questions:

Mycareer: I you only play mycareer it's fine. But me, and probably a lot of people get tired of mycareer's repetitive nature and moronic ai pretty quickly. Playing 82 games with 12m quarters would be a struggle and probably take an entire year for me. Maybe i want a second or third 80-90ovr player? How's that gonna work without buying vc. On another note jumpshots, layups, rituals, etc.. should be free or a lot cheaper. Accessories should be free, unless they give boosts. The idea of training boosts is f'd up.

Myteam: I hate it because ppl can buy their teams, i also hate the gameplay and all gold teams but that's obviously another story.

In short: I don't hate vc, i actually believe it could be a good thing. What i hate is that it's being exploited by 2k and what it does do the game the way it's implemented right now. I'll just use my post from another topic to explain what i believe would be the (ethically) right way for 2k to use it.

That it has absolutely nothing to do with the game of basketball.

If SIM is the goal I fail to see how this continues to remain in the game. Essentially I don't have to practice a free throw to become the best FT shooter ever. Stupid.

Re: So What's The Real Beef With VC?

I don't see how this differs from what is done in other games across the industry. Look at FIFA. I totally agree that there needs to be tuning of how much things cost and how much you earn. But to complain about it's existence is a little silly considering the direction of the industry as a whole.
