RTTS Analog Hitting - avg too low?

Hi there,

I have a minor problem with my first baseman in RTTS:

I play RTTS in the Majors (rookie 2016 season). Analog hitting, AllStar. Contact l/r in the mid 80's, power l/r around 70. Vision and Discipline around 83. Clutch 78, overall I'm 94 and 2nd on my team. Everything feels fine when I hit. I draw walks, i'm pounding meatballs all over the stadium for HR's and doubles. I have 18 HR's and 37 doubles in a 120 games. I think my power numbers are OK for a rookie season. The problem is, that i'm hitting almost as many doubles and HR's as I hit singles! If i'm not on a hot or cold streak (fire or snowflake symbol) I hit around .220 - .230. On a cold streak way below .200 for 30+ games. Every now and then I have games like last night where I went 4 for 5 with 2B(2) ;3B; HR; BB; 3RBI's and 2R! So I would say that i'm doing OK with analog hitting. But right now my BA is around .255. I don't think this number is matching my player. I was hitting .330 in AA and .320 in AAA when I got promoted. Batting feels awful because even if I go for a hitable pitch near the center of the zone with good timing the swings ends up as a bunt type of hit or GIDP or a 200ft flyout! Except those power hitting games it feels like the cold streak has never ended.
Sliders: Raised Contact, Timing, and Solid Hits by 1 and lowered Power by 1.

My Questions:
  1. Is this normal for a Rookie season?
  2. Do you see something, that I should change?
  3. My CPU teammates with batting attributes around 70 (that's the most) are hitting .270 - .300. I'm hitting .255 with batting around 85. I can only hit pitches right down the pipe. Everything that is just a bit closer to the corners of the zone will end up in total garbage hits. Those pitches are not painting the black, they are well inside the zone! Is this normal on analog AllStar?
Sorry for my English and thanks in advance!

Re: RTTS Analog Hitting - avg too low?

My rookie season (2016) I hit .222 for the year and right now in Yr 2, I'm hitting .307 in late June (#1 in MVP AL race). My Con&Pwr for Right handed pitcher is 90+ and for Left handed pitcher it's in the 80's...my RTTS bats left. You might just have to keep messing with sliders; I thought maybe you weren't taking enough balls but you said you get BB. I was having difficulty hitting in April 2017 (sub .200) and stopped playing the game for 2 weeks (real time). I came back to it and thought my hitting would go even further down because of my timing. It actually increased because I made myself take the 1st pitch, which was a ball more than not. I started to hit first pitch strikes, once i got used to telling the location of the pitch. In real life, the league average this past year was .253, so your around there. I would give it a full year or two before you make any big changes in your sliders.

Re: RTTS Analog Hitting - avg too low?

Thanks for the answer!

Like I said, I feel comfortable when hitting. There are just too many really weak and annoying hits that end up as pop ups, 200ft fly balls and so on. What bothers me is the fact that my attributes are way higher then the CPU's but they are a lot better hitters then I am. My Overall is 95 now! Batting .300 with Contact at 99 at the peek of my career would be OK for me. I think I will get there.
Hitting throughout a season right now feels a bit like I'm not good enough and I'm hitting .230 - .240 for most of the year (which will kill my gamepad sooner or later) . Then the game seems to make up for it and gives me 1 or 2 of those insane games where I hit 3 for 4 with a BB and two extra base hits. Those games feel like The Show tries to get my low numbers right.
It is frustrating to play in the .230 category for about 90% of the game.

I would guess it's because when the CPU hits, the % of successful AB is based on pure #'s...calculations by the game on chance of a weak hit, grounders to 2B, hard hit HR, hits ending in a DP etc. On the otherhand, the RTTS character has to include the human element (stick skills), such as swinging at bad pitches, influencing balls hit to one side of the field vs the other.

1. Is this normal for a Rookie season?

There are probably a few factors by which you are affected. First of all, the difficulty level changes from AA to MLB. If your difficulty is set at All-star, that means you were playing at Veteran on AA, All-star on AAA, and HoF now on MLB (this is documented in the in-game Strategy Guide accessible under the pause menu). Given that your opposing pitchers' attribute ratings are higher at MLB you are effectively playing against tougher competitions at a higher difficulty level. So the decline in your batting average, I would say, is probably expected. It looks drastic from your past performance, but nonetheless HoF is pretty difficult for many players.

2. Do you see something, that I should change?

See the next question...

3. ... Those pitches are not painting the black, they are well inside the zone! Is this normal on analog AllStar?

It looks like you have a symptom of "oh my god, I can only center swing with Pure Analog and cannot hit pitches near the black because my PCI isn't large enough to cover the whole strike zone wtf" syndrome. As I mentioned, you are effectively playing on HoF, where your PCI is generally smaller than All-star. With Pure Analog, you have to push up the R3 stick toward left or right to move the PCI laterally. Otherwise your sweet spot would always be going through the middle of the plate, so that's partly why a large number of hits you are producing are of "poor" or "weak" kind. It didn't happen with you in AA and AAA, since down there your PCI probably was large enough to cover (almost) the entire strike zone. So either learn to move the PCI laterally with Pure Analog, or lower the difficulty level. I would also recommend hitting with PCI visual on for a few games to see this in action.

It's also worth mentioning that correct timing is rather important to solidly hit with Pure Analog. If you swing late, you tend to pop up, swing early and you'll be the king of ground outs. Learn to time the pitch well. Also, adjust timing according to pitch location. Swing a bit early to catch up to high fastball, stay back on pitches down low.

It looks like my problem has to do with swinging through the middle. I stopt swinging inside and outside in AA, because it was more productive to swing through the middle. It was somehow easier to draw walks when i was not concentrating on swinging inside and outside. Drawing walks in AA (Veteran) was a pain in the lower back. I didn't get penalized fo swinging through the middle on "Veteran"! I doubt that i'm good enough to manage swing location and judgeing balls and strike at the same time. I will definetly not give up on analog hitting and i will stick to All Star difficulty. Spring Training 2017 will be a good time to practice swing location. If i end up being a .270 hitter thats fine with me.

Thanks for your help, guys!

Try Zone plus Analog...seriously. You have much more control. And IMO it is easier to hit pitches inside/outside by manually aiming your PCI with precision as opposed to pushing the RS down then angling it up to the right/left.
