Re: CPU clearances are insane. This must be patched

The CPU clearances in the demo (which I'm still playing) are flat-out bugged: blind 15-20 yard balloon clearances to CPU teammates, every single time. If you're saying this wasn't in fact fixed in the full game, it's yet another example of why I shake my head at the 9 scores this series gets every year. Nobody who reviews FIFA ever mentions that aspects of this series are entirely bunged.

Smooth gameplay: check.
Nice graphics: check
Great online modes: check
Licensed teams: check
It's a 10 out of 10 fellas!

Did you unlock Insanity mode or something? That's brutal.

Yes, Insanity mode. Good one sir!

I see this happen at least once or twice a game.

What I am trying to understand is why EA is so against sustained pressure on the goal.

It's remarkable the amount of times I get a shot off and it just comes right back out immediately and the ball is carried the other direction.

I coach and I always preach that you put the ball on the goal. It's no good of course to kick it over the goal. Forcing a save is great. Having the keeper save and spill is great. Scoring is exactly what you want. A deep deflection off player, goal parts, keeper parts and then you can pounce on it and tuck it into the goal. Good things come from putting the ball on goal.

But EA won't let that happen because they are so hell bent on ripping that ball right back out of there immediately and getting it down to the feet of one of their players ASAP.

On one hand, yeah getting the ball out to your player, that is what you want to do sure.

But it's not easy to accomplish which is why you so rarely see happen as cleanly, quickly and precisely as it happens in the game, IRL.

All EA has to do is make clearances 89% less accurate. Simple as that.

The psychic clearances seem to mostly happen when the ball is traveling at a certain "reflex" velocity: clearing rebounds etc. But when the CPU steals the ball away from you in its end, it often takes its time and passes the ball sideways and even back to the GK. These are great new additions to the CPU on-the-ball game this year, and in fairness needs to be mentioned as well. The psychic clearances are new as well and appear to be some kind of funky and glitched by-product of this new CPU on-the-ball AI.

Very astute observation Yeats.

Now that you wrote that it's exactly that. The ball always seems to come back out at the pace it goes in.

Very odd and I guess this is part of the legacy ping pong nature of previous FIFA's carrying over into 14.

I wonder if next gen will solve any of this? From the gameplay footage I have watched so far it looks like the "soul" of the game is still very much CG FIFA.

Speaking of psychic dribbling...

Here is what holding the contain D button does for you on world class.

CPU is in blue.

http://youtu.be/jallKyLk5BI

Just dances around the ball never getting a foot in while the cpu shows him the ball several times.
