Great Game! - Lots of Penalties!

Hey Guys,

I just played the first game of the season with San Jose. I have seen a lot of concern on the boards here about a lack of penalties in this game. I have also seen some people assert that you shouldn't touch the penalties sliders in the CPU AI section. Well this is very true. I have also heard a lot of complaints about "catch-up logic" and I have to say that I think I may have found the issue.

Sliders

For penalties, I adjusted the main penalties slider to full, and the fighting slider to full, but left the CPU penalties and the CPU teammate penalties sliders are default.

For the "catch-up" issue, I simply turn the AI Learning slider down to one, as I don't want them to be complete morons out there! I also turn the CPU strategy adjustment slider way down low. This helped me a lot, as the third period isn't a cheese fest. Incidentally, I also focused on playing better D through out the game. I blocked passing lanes, and didn't chase after the puck carrier like a moron.

I am playing on Pro setting, and i think it is Hardcore Realism. The only other slider I changed was the goalie reaction time sliders, as this also help cut out the cheeses goals.

San Jose versus Vancouver Canucks

Here is a sample game I just played (I am just listing general stats and penalties, not scoring):

Vancouver Canucks at San Jose Sharks

SJSFighting (17:15) A. Burish
VANFighting (17:15) A. Alberts
THIRD PERIOD
SJSTripping (17:33) M. Havlat

I also had a player sustain an injury off of a dirty hit. Needless to say Vancouver will pay during our next meeting!

Also, regarding the goalie rotation. I just turned off the setting that affects that. But I definitely think they need to patch that aspect of the game for the CPU teams.

Holy smokes... I have seen a lot of penalties in one game but wow...I too found that changing those exact sliders to what you have is perfect except I play on allstar and I find way more variety of scoring...

The problem is with BeAGM mode though. It seems like in Season you are seeing penalties called a lot more than in BeAGM.

Re: Great Game! - Lots of Penalties!

I'm not trying to be a downer here but those penalty numbers don't mean that much really.

The roughing and fighting penalties is triggered by the player themselves.
Fighting penatly occur if you, well... fight, and will equal two penalties.

Roughing can easily be triggered by;
In a situation infront of the goalie, when the play is stopped, the defender usually grabs the forward, and go into their little manly dance. If you as a forward presses L1/LB, at that point the player will separate, and 9 out of ten times the defender will start pushing and showing. If the post-whistle rules are set to "Authentic" you will get a penalty most of the times.

I managed to lure the CPU into 5 penalties in one period like that. It's like cheating.

So not counting the fighting or roughing penalties, the actual penalties (in game) are 4 for SJS and VAN 3, which is allright, but nothing extreme.
