How can 2k get away with this...

Hi guys,

im really disappointed atm. I just got my copy of nba 2k14. I popped it in and played Houston vs Dallas. And within one minute Omer Asik was boxed out properly an grabbed a rebound right through Dirks Chest. I mean literally...through his heart

I read alot about 2k14 being gameplay focused (i.e.: primarly innovation in the gameplay rather than gamemodes etc.) I loved that since i mainly play against my buddies and don't really play myplayer or franchise. I understant that im in the minority (being almost 30 years old, working a full time job; 2k is to me my substitute basketball when i don't have enough guys around to play real hoops; so you cam see where i'm coming from). Aside from the obviously (yet again) broken physics/collision...the game is waaayyy to arcady in its current state. I was so frustrated that i keep throwing up bad threes (to at least get the feel for the new shot stick)...guess what: 80% went in (from Calderon (ok really good shooter last year), and DEVIN HARRIS???? (COME ON!!!)) so the quartered ended 20-18 Houston.

I cant understand how fans put up with this in 2013. Look a FIFA. Of course sometimes there are strange tumbles and falls...and the AI definitly needs some work; but i never had an opponent steal a ball from me in an unnatural manner. Every Collision is spot on and looks great (even in close ups in replay mode). Why do people keep buying these broken games. I really dislike EA (for a lot of its policies) and im a casual footie fan at best. But this year i'll get with FIFA (PS4).

What do you guys think. Will 2k fix its broken physics with next-gen and a (hopefully) new engine. I really mean no disrespect to the dev team and i understand all of this is a business...but how can EA use technology like impact or infinity engine (or ignite or whatever they brand it this time around) while 2k keeps forcing down their broken engine down our throats?

Opinions?

best regards
Mira

Well I mean, it's a videogame. You can't name one video game that doesn't have clipping and a few collision detection issues. The fact of the matter is this year, it's been improved 100% from 2K13.

Also, if you're shooting 80% from deep, you wanna give me some pointers lol?

I love that you quote EA's technology when they haven't had a basketball game in three years. I' opening a company with the "SupaDupa Gameplay Engine". I bet my game is the best of all time.

Just because a company has a name attached to their engine doesn't mean its good. EA's engine has just as many clipping/visual bugs as any other sports game out there.

Fact remains 2k14 is the best gameplay NBA to date, if you don't think so then I guess some people will always be complainers.

Re: How can 2k get away with this...

I think most people completely expect video games to have oddities, clipping, and things that don't 100% match reality. What we hope for is to continue to strive towards reality while minimizing the quirks. There was term used a while back called "game killer" the thought was all games don't match reality is some aspect. But that term was used to indicate the glitch, bug, or problem was so over bearing or out of proportion that it ruined "killed" the game. Usually most expect some clipping, skating, and the sort . we just don't want it so bad that it complely ruins the experience.

For me "matador blocking" and the mindless blocking A.I. in madden those couple years were complete game killers for me. Others found ways to enjoy it anyway. So its relative.

It seems like EA is publishing the 2k series, with how slow they progress year to year, and big bugs and backward steps with each new release.

Re: How can 2k get away with this...

@Gosens6: did you even play Fifa 14? Sure there's clipping...in the extraneous childish controllable victory dances. But ingame---show me bad collision/Clipping in FIFA 14...and the whole "its a videogame" argument is getting old quickly. As i said before: if one franchise can pull it off why shouldn't everybody be holden to the same standard?

@Semipro91: Agreed. I'm not arguing i favor of EAs infamous live or elite series. And of course ignite is alot of PR-BS. But i read so previews of the game the noted that clipping is pretty much eliminated from EAs next gen-endeavors.

@InChipWeTrust8600: Face it: A game, calling itself a simulation, where boxing out in alot of cases is simply impossible is: B-R-O-K-E-N. And btw: it has been broken for years. It can't be too hard to atleast account for visual feedback when a foul is called...there limbs passing through limbs all over the floor.

@TeeDogg: sorry i can't really comment on madden since i never really played a madden game in the last 5 years...but the collision in Backbreaker/Backbreaker Vengeance was nice, albeit a little lifeless.

@nyrangers81: sarcasticly agreed. As i said before im far from an EA-fan...but i just wanted to state the obvious.

Thanks everyone for chipping in. I hope more people sound off on this...but im afraid the truth is: Most people don't care about these issues...so there not enough money to be made in fixing it. Im pretty sure the in 10 years clipping will be a thing of the past. Imho clipping and bad collison is due to primitive algorythm running in the back of games. I hope more power will fix this once and for all...

just imagine a nba214 with next gen graphics and euphoria engine physics ala Backbreaker?
