Pelini's time in Nebraska running out?

1. Give up five straight touchdowns, get blown off your own field by UCLA.

2. Spit in the face of one of the program's icons when he speaks out about the on-field performance: http://sports.omaha.com/2013/09/16/p.../#.UjfMt7zhH-Y

3. Have it surface that you really, really hate the fans of your program (convenient timing on this). http://deadsp.in/1ejlIrp (NSFW, language)

4. Token, paint-by-numbers apology: http://espn.go.com/college-football/...fane-rant-fans

He's already been on thin ice with the fanbase because of the gradual regression of Nebraska's defense into a puddle of goo, along with spectacularly mediocre recruiting (which goes beyond the fact that it's difficult to recruit to Lincoln; Pelini just doesn't like it). At this point I'm not sure if Pelini hates it in Lincoln more than the fans hate Pelini BEING in Lincoln.

Bad luck for Nebraska...possibly hunting for a coach in the same offseason as USC and Texas? Ouch.

Well, Scott Frost has impressed so far. I know there are some Husker fans who would welcome him home. Not sure how it would rate as a hire in reality, but it's certainly been talked about as the eventual post-Pelini hire in certain circles.

To think, if not for fortuitous timing with Urban Meyer, this guy would've likely been the head man in Columbus...

I would be baffled if Nebraska, USC, and Texas all arent looking for a new coach this offseason.

But but but...Pelini recruited Taylor Martinez. And isn't that all that matters?

T-Magic's love for the fans cancels out Pelini's hatred. We're okay.

The more this goes on, the more this is shaping up to be like 2007 with Callahan. Unfortunately, I don't see any hot up-and-comers this offseason. Pelini needs to leave, but who will replace him?

The problem's not even the defense as much as the offense. There's NFL talent at multiple positions, and the playcalling has been suspect all year. When your defense is reeling, maybe it's not a good time to start running gadget plays like PA read options into bubble screens and slinging the rock with a QB that's never been a good drop-back passer. To get skunked in the second half is what's really inexcusable. The defensive playcalling may have sucked as well, but when your guys barely have time to take a sip of Gatorade in between drives, what are you supposed to do?

If he is fired, Pelini will virtually go to his first choice and fall softly. Nebraska will not.
