Why do they continue to leave off 'shadow WR' options?

It seems pretty ridiculous to me. Now more then ever, it's so easy to run your stud WR in the slot and be faced up with a LB or 4th CB every single time. You could run an entire game and keep him away from the teams best CB without trying too hard and there is no combat on the defense for this. It used to be in the game a few years ago.

If you are rebuilding your CB core, 1 stud really doesn't even matter when Calvin Johnson lines up in the slot the entire game, even in zone chances he would cover him are slim to none, and a bunch of playbooks feature their #1 offense out of the slot.

It's probably the biggest ommision for me this year.

I know this isn't the answer you want or the answer anyone wants to a good slot WR but there is one way to counter a good WR in the slot.

Pretty much any Nickel and Dime set has a package (use the right stick to cycle through them) that places the #1 CB at nickel back, there is also one that will place the #2 CB at nickel back.

From there if you see that your DB isn't lined up against the slot WR then flip the play immediately. EA doesn't recongnize strong or weak from and offensive standpoint and they don't really recongnize that that nickel back should be on the other side of the formation from the get go. They force you to flip the play regardless. This is also true of Over and Under fronts, you'll never be playing the correct front if the strong side of the formation is on the left. EA sees the strong side as the right side of the screen regardless of the offensive alignment.

It's all part of EAs plan to get football gaming back to where Super Tecmo Bowl was in 1993.

Give them another year. They'll get there!!...............

Why does EA continue to leave out tons of fundamental aspects of real football? Because they are the only game in town and can half *** a football game every year and the poor gamer has to try to enjoy it. As far as I am concerned M12 was the last NFL game worth trying to play that was remotely decent for me. Sad thing is EA will not put out a next gen football game worth owning either, it will be the same warmed over garbage that is M25 right now.

I had a blast with all of the Tecmo Bowl games, EA could never make a football game that much fun! They would get it half way right one year then strip it of half the good stuff and add crazy stuff like fight for a fumble or a bomb sound on long passes, LOL.

On a lot of defensive schemes, you can easily cycle through and put your best corner in the slot.

I love when someone tried to always put their best WR in the slot, I usually leave my best corners on the outside and double up the slot guy for a nice coverage sack.

Re: Why do they continue to leave off 'shadow WR' options?

Are you tellin' me a feature was in the game, only to be taken out later? That doesn't sound like EA SPORTZ.

Please no one here take this personally... Reading these answers bugs me. Ya know what? Yeah there are hack workarounds. You know what we call those? Hack workarounds. You can also user control the DB playing man to man. But it sucks and it's not fun. It's like fighting through Windows Vista and just saying F it I want xp back! It's not really real, if you're looking to be really real, but being really real isn't Madden's forte these days. (Years...)

It WAS there, now it isn't. In fact if I remember correctly you could assign ANYONE to man cover ANYONE. LB on WR all day if you wanted to. And a hack workaround with a lame "This works for me" isn't really what I want to see. It was a great feature that is a very small part of the game feature wise (Yeah, you don't get to menu surf for 5 minutes (While listening to crappy stadium remixes of 80's music!!) to find the proper place to set prices so that your coney dog sells or whatever.) but a HUGE one FOOTBALL wise.

They should call the next one "Shut up and buy it 15"

Re: Why do they continue to leave off 'shadow WR' options?

They probably took it out because it wrecked havoc on the defensive alignments. You might assign your number 1 corner to shadow the #1 WR but then you see your MLB lined up covering a WR or something.

Rather than, you know, fixing that they took it out.
