why is zone defense so not effective this year?

Everytime i play zone i get beat.. why is that this year man is really the only way too go?

Hard to say why without knowing how people are beating you. I think zone is a bit better than man this year but both have their pro's and cons. Zone is lethal if you can user control a player and take away the big gaps in a zone. Man is lethal if you can predict tendencies and shade your dbs right.

Gotta try to mix it up and disguise your coverage too, if you come out in in cover 2 every play, a good player will eat you up. Same with man for that matter. Defense is harder to play in this game but not impossible, just requires alot more user pre-snap adjustments than ever before.

Majority of my snaps online are in a cover 3. Nothing wrong with zone imo and it gets me a lot of interceptions. Just got to keep mixing it up.

lol it still boggles my mind when people ask why defense sucks in madden specially this year and others tell them you have to make pre snap adjustments blah blah blah. its and always will be the lack of pass rush. just like in real life if the qb is not pressured he wont make mistakes. you hear announcers say it every sunday. its just common sense. that and man coverage is a joke. run an out route against man and see how long it takes a corner to realize it, its literally a 8 yard cushion, its a joke. oh and anyone saying that they get a rush is either usering or playing all pro or lower. and if you play vs human no matter what you call a good player will eat you up cause you cannot get to him. even overload blitzes get picked up. the line play is scripted and it always has been.

go to practice with a 3-4 D, run an overload blitz away from the TE/strong side. "3-4 under weak blitz" is good for this. you will see that the rolb comes free but he gets blocked by the RIGHT FU****NG TACKLE WHO KNEW HE WAS GOING TO COME FREE BEFORE THE BALL WAS SNAPPEd. i sh** you not.

anyways the new gen promises that the "trenches" will be the foundation of madden just like it is in real life. if that comes to be true it will be a great experience of that i have no doubt.

Is the defense perfect? Nope, but the adjustments make a huge difference. As for blitzs, go to practice and figure out how to get consistent pressure experimenting. Stock Madden blitzes suck, but it's possible to get pressure without nano blitzing . Precision moves with a good defensive end has been working well for me.

This is definently right. If you're effective at usering a defender in a zone, your defensive performance will skyrocket. A good user can cover literally twice as much space as the CPU, which can lead you to force multiple interceptions because your opponent isn't used to the defender being able to make a play on these passes. They're used to trying to throw between CPU zones, which frequently display incompetence.

If a user is good at anticipating the throw and throws to the hole as opposed to waiting until the WR is in the hole then there's just no way to cover all the gaps in zone defense. And if you blitz out of zone vs a good offensive player your toast. Not that you can't light man up also, you certainly can, but at least there's someone there to make the tackle. The safeties take such poor angles in terms of anticipating where the WR will catch the ball, though, that a quick slant can be 6 on a fairly consistent basis if the SS/FS is the last line of defense. Often times, it seems to me, that at the moment the ball is thrown the SS/FS sizes up the WR where he is at at that specific second and takes a step towards him.....then in the next second as the WR is making the catch a good 5 yards further along in his route, the SS/FS adjusts and turns to where the WR is now and begins his pursuit. That 1 misstep can cost you big.
