TSO Madden 25 Review

Good read here with lots of info in their review. Really comprehensive look at the game and worth a look if you haven't seen it already.

Re: TSO Madden 25 Review

Wow, that was one hell of a review. Best review I read so far because it felt like a normal regular person wrote it and not the standard we following the press release guidelines type of review that I see on so many websites.

Re: TSO Madden 25 Review

It was a really good review. Yet another review mentioning issues with zone coverage and the pass rush. I wonder if they will get the hint...

This quote from the review is one of the best summaries I've seen regarding this game:

Quote:
It is worth noting, however, that many of the gameplay concerns can be resolved through slider adjustments, which seem to all work this year. While it’s important to recognize the functionality of sliders, it’s even more important to ensure they don’t become a crutch for developers. Sliders should be a tool to make subtle changes based on player preference, not to make major changes out of necessity.
The game, to me, continues to reward stick skills, while discounting strategy. Most frustrating is the fact that some of these gameplay decisions can’t be blamed on the current generation of hardware, as NCAA Football 14 does them much better. This leads me to believe that the emphasis was off for the Madden team – as it seems they built a game that has some great looking bullet points on the back of the box, but fails to deliver on the field.

Thumbs up Re: TSO Madden 25 Review

I still thought the one on http://godhatesgeeks.com/ was better (because it practically made me **** my pants) but this was perhaps more extensive. Bravo, good sirs.

Re: TSO Madden 25 Review

I read I Peench's review this morning on TSO and found it very thorough and well thought out. That said, it's unfortunate that to point out any obvious negatives with the game one has to offer some form of credit for the most mundane of things. Madden does almost nothing well that I can think of at the moment but in order to be considered constructive or not a blind EA hatemonger one needs to go out of there way to acknowledge Tiburon's basic effort. Sure Madden today has less features than even Madden in 2004 on inferior consoles but let's be thankful we even have a football game.

I'm as disgusted with this whole generation of football gaming and EA right now, as I have ever been. I wonder how unequivocally bad a Madden would have to be before someone could give it a review score of 5 or below and be taken seriously. What is the criteria for a solid football game at this point, after Tiburon lowering the bar, just that it works?

I long for the day when being completely honest isn't characterized as being nonconstructive or overly negative. If something is bad, people should be able to say it's bad without having to resort to things like listing basics as "pros" just so the "cons" get taken seriously.

Re: TSO Madden 25 Review

This is my review of all the current gen madden games cept for Madden 12, i liked 12 because it wasnt EAs fault.

The Madden syndrome develops in response to a three-stage cycle found in football video gaming monopoly situation. First, tension builds in the relationship. Second, the abusive partner releases rehashed upgrades via yearly 60 dollar shakedowns, first day patches etc, while blaming the victim (consumer) for having caused the shoddy piece of work. Third, the monopolistic partner (EA) makes gestures of contrition. However, the partner does not find solutions to avoid another phase of tension building and release so the cycle repeats. The repetition of the marketing gimmicks and "new additions" on a yearly basis continues despite the abuser's attempts to "make nice" results in the abused consumer feeling at fault for not preventing a repeat cycle of the scam. However, since the consumer is not at fault and the scam is internally driven by the monopolistic company need to control, this self-blame results in feelings of helplessness rather than empowerment. The feeling of being both responsible for and helpless to stop the scam leads in turn to depression and passivity. This learned depression and passivity makes it difficult for the abused partner to marshal the resources and support system needed to leave.

Feelings of depression and passivity may also be created by lack of social support outside of the abusive situation. Research in the 2000s by Gondolf and Fisher found that NFL gamers in abusive situations increase help-seeking behavior as rehashing/updates intensifies. However, their attempts at seeking help are often frustrated by unresponsive extended family, kids who should be playing backyard football on the Nintendo wii and football gaming social forums. In a 2011 study, Gondolf found that more than half of NFL gamers had negative views of the infamous 2K series from SEGA and alternative choices on football gaming for battered fans because of negative experiences with those games.
