RTTS - No contract offered to my player

I created a power hitting 3B and with the GS pre-order bonus, I was able to easily dominate what needed done. I was drafted by the Cards

Year 1: They buried me in the minors. I went from AA to AAA with ease. They brought me up in the expanding roster period. I had to be left off the playoff roster.
Year 2: Starting Cards
Year 3: Starting Cards, All-Star reserve, won HR Derby
Year 4: Starting Cards, All-Star. Making $18 Mill (2 year deal)
Year 5: Starting Cards, All-Star, MVP. Making $18 Mill
Year 6: Starting Cards, All-Star. Offered arbitration. Arbitrator lowered my salary to $14 mil.
Year 7: Stuck with Cards because they didn't count year 1 as a service year. Signed a 1 year deal $16 mil. Made MVP again.

After year 7, I saved the off-season. I denied the Cards offer to go to free agency. They offered 3 years at $14 mil. They then asked to sign a qualifying offer of 1 year $8 mil. I declined. When I became a free agent. Not one of the other 29 teams in the MLB offered me a contract. Spring training came and I was told to select a team to try out for. I loaded the save file and repeated this 3 times with the same result give or take some money from the Cards.

How in the world, does a young, 2-time MVP, 5 time all-star, league leader in many categories, rated 99 in everything get not ONE offer? In older versions of the Show, I'd get offers from about 2-5 teams and now nothing? I feel I wasted so much time in RTTS (and blew the GS pre-order points) for no reward.

Can anyone explain this?

Unless your organization releases you, they hold your rights for 6 years. My guess is you had less than 6 years of service time Year 7 offseason.

I've not gotten this far in RTTS yet. I was close but my hard drive crashed and I had to reformat the drive (3 times) before getting it back to 100% and I foolishly did not make backups (lesson learned).

However, I really think they screwed up the budget in this game. In my franchise(s) where I mostly sim and manage, I'm always pressed hard against budget. Since rebuilding my machine, I'm doing a Dodger franchise and I'm leading the West and my projected budget is $7M less in season 2 than in season 1. I figure I'm going to have to dump salary despite having a legitimate shot at a WS in a large market. It wouldn't surprise me if there aren't any teams that don't have the budget room to sign your RTTS player.

Re: RTTS - No contract offered to my player

I actually had this happen yesterday. I was finally able to elect for Free Agency after six service years and turning down a qualifying offer. I didn't get signed by anyone and was eventually prompted to tryout for a team. I tried out for Texas and they offered me an eight year deal worth 128 million after Spring Training. I signed that happily and was glad I still ended up getting a big contract. But I was definitely bummed that I didn't get to actually sign with anyone during Free Agency.

Re: RTTS - No contract offered to my player

I haven't been offered a contract during free agency in RTTS for years. I always had to try out for a team in 11, 12, and it looks like it wasn't fixed for 13 either.

Re: RTTS - No contract offered to my player

Has it ever been addressed why this is happening? It is quite odd to make it to free agency as a star and have no one offer a contract. I assumed it was just some glitch where the game never wants to give up a draft pick for players offered qualifying offers. That being said, there are always teams that will give up a draft pick if it's a big enough player.

Frustrating to say the least.
