If you play the auctions and play the games online, you can bank ton of coins and not spend a dime of actual money. I can verify what the OP says to be true.
I'm sitting on 50,000 coins at the moment.

New to all this so not really sure how to play the auctions. How do you know what a card "should" go for and if you can get it cheap to flip??

My internet isnt the best so afraid i will cause too much lag in online games, but i will try it out and see how it works

You just need to invest the time in watching the auctions.
The real money is playing the games online and winning, though.
