Interesting information about CPU offseason recruiting logic

Using the recruiting reports timesavers (which lets you view how much points the CPU is putting into their recruits) I was able to see how much they gave their recruits on offseason recruiting. They always spread out the points evenly between 3-5 recruits or just go all in on 1 recruit. There was no exceptions. A few teams spent 10,000 on a single recruit. Some were successful, others still finished way behind the 1st place team. Louisville and USF both put 10,000 into the #8 ranked WR.

I also found some teams only spent 6000 or 8000 points which was troubling. Not sure how to explain that one. They had a full recruiting board but only gave out 2000 points to 3-4 recruits. As far as I know, 10,000 is the default so the fact CPU teams aren't using all the points is a head scratcher.

In conclusion..

there is no difference from powerhouse teams to small schools when it comes to offseason recruiting point distribution logic, besides the fact of better coaches having more points to spend.

The team either divides their points evenly between 3-5 recruits or goes all in on 1 player.

The max points the CPU spreads out points between recruits is 3000 each, and the smallest is 2000.

The CPU logic is pretty stupid because some teams only used 6000 or 8000 points instead of the default 10,000.

Its pretty much a guessing game on signing day. Which recruits will the CPU go after? Their board has 30 or so players but they only distribute the points to either 1 recruit or 3-5 recruits.

I couldn't find any distinct pattern to explain why they chose those recruits over the others. It didn't have any difference what caliber the players were, some teams gave 2000-3000 points to 1 star players when they had 3/4 stars on their board at the same position.

If I had to guess, I would say that the CPU puts the points into the players that are in recruiting battles or recruits that other teams have big leads on in an attempt to catch up, but I cant tell which one. Its probably both.

I say recruits that other teams have big leads on because a lot of teams gave 2000-3000 points to players but still lost by several thousand, sometimes 10,000+ points.

I say recruits in recruiting battles because I found the recruits they distributed points to.. usually only about 50% committed to that team. Some players they gave points to, they won by a ton and others they lost by a ton.

Most of the players they gave 0 points to committed to that school anyway, leading me to believe they weren't in a recruiting battle.

If you have a player in a recruiting battle or you have a big lead.. expect the CPU to invest 2000-3000 points into that player, and don't be shocked if they go all in with 10,000 points and steal the recruit from you, because it does happen. Only 1-5 teams will go all in on a recruit usually.

If you are interested in how the CPU spends their points during in-season recruiting.. check out my other thread:

Re: Interesting information about CPU offseason recruiting logic

sorry to be off topic, but how did your second post happen before your OP?

Travelling?

Thanks for the info, I just completed my first offline dynasty season and with south alabama i had #31 recruiting class.
Offseason recruiting was interesting... definitely a guessing game as to which schools will spend the most points on which recruits... but i got 7 guys on signing day and lost 1 to UAB or Georgia Southern or something.

Good stuff. That actually explains a lot and gives me a better idea what to do. Well, at least in my offline dynasty when I don't have human players competing against me...

Thank you for doing this man. Now I won't be going into my first off season completely blind.

Re: Interesting information about CPU offseason recruiting logic

Off season logic goes by team need.

If a team needs a QB to meet the minimum, they put all their points into the highest commit level QB.

If a team needs a WR and CB, they split the points into the 2 positions.

If a team needs more than 1 position, they split evenly among the positions, leaving every other position vulnerable.
