Tips to Start a Franchise?

I just picked up the game today and I just got into baseball as a fan. I followed football and i found an interest in America's pastime.

Anyway I wanted to start a franchise mode but I had a couple of questions for you guys about the game mode.

HOW DO YOU GUYS PLAY 162 GAMES? That is a ridiculous number

What are some bad teams that I can play as?

Recommend some realistic sliders?

Thanks!

162 games, the greatest test of long-term endurance in sports. So many things can happen during a season.

As for the game, you can just simulate up to specific dates if you want. I usually sim a week at a time and only jump in if I need to get off a losing streak.

As for bad teams, the Marlins and the Astros are the worst right now.

Re: Tips to Start a Franchise?

Usually I'll play a game for every series or one a week. Then in September I'll usually play all division games to gain some ground in the standings or stay ahead of the competition. Then every postseason game is played by my thumbs :P You can even shorten the season to between 60 something games to 162.

Astros, Marlins, Cubs are pretty bad. It'd be a true challenge taking on one of those.

Re: Tips to Start a Franchise?

Yeah 162 is a lot!! I've been a sports gamer for years but I am yet to accomplish that feat. You can sim obviously as many as you want but that's no fun if you ask me. Anways, tips:
1) Don't use Dynamic Player Ratings
2) If you're looking for statistical realism, try a team that has fairly evenly skilled players throughout the lineup. Therefore I wouldn't recommend using the Jays because Bautista and Encarnacion will hit like 80 hr's while the rest of your team hits a more realistic number because their power is so high. The Dodgers for one have a fairly balanced lineup so if I start a new season I will use them.
3) Use a good slider set. I recommend the set I posted.

162 games is a grind! i try to play 1 game each series. as far as teams go the royals are a decent team to use. Not very bad but have a lot of young guys that could put up decent numbers. Butler, Hosmer, and Moustakas to name a few. Pretty good ace in James Shields too.

162 games is a lot. Generally, I try to play two games of a 4-game series, OR one game of a 3-game series.

As for what crappy teams to control, there are quite a few. Going division by
division makes it an easier process to choose:
NL East: Miami Marlins and NY Mets
AL East: Every team is strong, I'd ignore this division if you are planning on rebuilding a club
NL Central: Chicago Cubs
AL Central: Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals
NL West: San Diego Padres
AL West: Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros

Re: Tips to Start a Franchise?

I play every other game. Like to think I had some control of outcome and stats of season. Do the same with NBA and FIfa. Only sports games I have played all are NCAA and Madden. Thinking about playing every other in those as well, older and working a lot, so not much time. Wish I could figure out a good sim % to get. Thinking to going to 1/3 of all games, if in playoffs i always play all games. Love to get into multiple years into dynasty for a change.
