Player Decline

When a player is in his mid 30's, after the first offseason, the attribute decline is massive. In subsequent offseasons is the decline as massive. Or is it more gradual (in other words less significant). Thanks.

no its pretty steep all around. but is based on their potential and how they do in the season.. for EX in my franchise the Yankees traded me jeter for a C rated prospect in the first season... he was at 77 at the time by the end of the season he was at 70 because he slumped the whole season.. I dropped him to AA where he just steadily declined the whole time until he retired

I play season mode, so players don't decline during the season itself. But should I expect, for example Roy Oswalt, to decline heavily during the first offseason, and then more heavy declines during the following offseasons?

Also do hitters in their mid 30's and older experience even decline in all categories (or is it more in the areas they excel in). For instance I have Podsednik on my team (who excels in contact and speed). Should I expect those areas to decline more than the areas he is average in?

Re: Player Decline

they decline slowly after about 32/33 and start to steeply decline after 36 it seems to be at random at least as far as I can tell... but their overall rating drops between 2 and 6 points per season or more

So with an overall decline of five points or so in the mid 30's should I expect each individual category to only decline a point or two?

This is incorrect. Season performance, good or bad, has no effect on attribute progression or regression. The devs have stated this already this year. It's all based on age, potential, and training during the season.

Though obviously I can't go against what the developers say...I see the contrary in my franchise.

I have players that are 31 that started to decline...heavily.

And Angel Pagan is having a very good season...hitting .349 mid way through june. He is 31 years old and he is actually progressing this season...not a lot, but some of his attributes have improved...and none have decreased.

Maybe it's his potential that is causing this.

Older guys like Zito, Vogelsong, Lopez etc. have declined heavily. To such a point that Zito is now a relief pitcher at 70 overall.

I've traded a couple of guys Pence etc. to bring in some young A potential pitchers...as Cain and Lincecum are 29 and 28 I think. So they'll start declining soon.

Lets say a hitter in his mid 30's sees an overall rating decline of five points. Would each individual category, such as speed and contact vs RHP, only be effected by a point or two?
