Clarence Bowman

Second year of the Sweetney path and I need a quarterback. I have a deal on the table to trade for Jay Cutler. I want to know which one has more potential in my system. I'm running the michigan spread, with Jim Caldwell as my QB coach.
NOTE: I have 2 1st if I need to trade up

Re: Clarence Bowman

I would check the draft cheat sheet. Sure its at potential but as long as you've scouted him and know his speed, you should be able to determine who would be better. I dont like jay cutler for your system though. He's not really fast enough to run the option... Josh johnson or even dixon would be cheaper and better fixes than jay(even with his arm strength and Im a bears fan!) If trading away picks or players isnt a big deal, try to steal vince young. A motivated vince young is unstoppable. Even a normal vince young is beastly in the titans system or the michigan spread/option playbooks.

Re: Clarence Bowman

I completely forgot that the playbook has QB running plays. It seemed last year that my QB threw a lot more than running.

Re: Clarence Bowman

If you allow the dc or oc to call plays, they will stick to the playcall percentages of the playbook. But they will also only call like 20 plays and the same one over and over on 3rd down and 1st down, sometimes even second down. Its highly suggested for difficulty and realistic purposes to call every play. if you always used mastered plays(as you will with oc or dc calling plays), you will never learn your whole playbook and you will rout many teams just because every mastered play will give SIGNIFICANT boosts to the ratings of those players who have mastered the play(not everyone on the field of a mastered play will be mastered, a backup might be unlearned or learned only).

I'm using this playbook too. Early on before I changed it to a pro offense, I used Vince Young, Troy Smith, Josh Johnson, and Dennis Dixon. All of them produced as long as plays learned-mastered. VY was an absolute monster. Freak of nature.

Re: Clarence Bowman

Did you scout/pro day/senior day/individual workout at all or just skip those parts?
