Hitting Help/Tips Needed.

Have played 6-7 exhibition games...all losses, but I still suck at hitting. Sucked last year at hitting too. Any tips? Would like to improve a little before starting my franchise...

  • I swing "early" pretty much 90% of the time. What can I do to help that? Just more discipline by me to swing later or what? I have setup a custom camera that I like, but if changing that could help, I'm open to that too.
  • Any tips for pitch recognition, as far as pitch type and location. I'm trying to watch ball out of pitcher's hand, and getting a little better. Still swing at some crazy bad pitches. Only get walked about once per game.
  • Then, we got swing type. When should I use Power swing? Normal swing? Contact swing? I've been using Power on 0 strike counts, then 1 strike counts with true power hitters. Then using contact for all 2 strike counts. Then normal for every other situation.

If you're early like most people on default, up your pitch speed. Other than that, patience at the plate.

I basically use normal swing 99% of the time. I never use power and will go contact with a mediocre player who is down 0-2 or 1-2.

Re: Hitting Help/Tips Needed.

if you are using pure analog i can help!

my suggestion for righty vs righty is to use an offset camera in which you are viewing from the right side of the plate. this cam is great for recognizing breaking balls.

if you are in a lefty vs righty or vice versa i suggest the 'catcher offset'

stay inside the ball. if you can find a way to "look for the pitches you can hit and not the ones you can't" i have stated before that this seems like an obvious statement that we have all heard before but once you understand it very deeply you will begin to recognize pitches immediately and will learn to lay off and smack the ones that come through the zone.

i only power swing with guys who have excellent discipline. i only use swing influence with guys who have " plate vision" but rarely when i have two strikes (or in pitchers count) do i use it.

learn to the hit the ball to opposite field without using swing influence. once you play the game a lot and watch baseball you will begin to be able to see the game can be very limited in what a pitcher can throw in certain situations. however, most important is the fastball. every pitcher has one and that is the pitch you want to crush as it is the foundation for all other pitches.

pitching, defense, and 3 run homers is a recipe for a successful team. (just something i read and agree with completely. )

Re: Hitting Help/Tips Needed.

how to hit like a pro and with a game plan mlbtheshow 10, google this, It will make hitting a lot better. In this game PATIENCE is the key(running up the count in you favor 2-0,3-0,3-1,2-1 etc..), and batting practice will teach you how to read pitches. Take batting practice but dont swing at any pitches. This guy KNOWLEDGE 2 win best advice to me is looking at an object behind the pitcher throwing arm, not his motion but concentrate on that object until he began his release then follow the . THIS IS GOLD. I know why you are swinging early, you do not want to miss the fast ball but by doing this the off speed pitches you will never hit. That thread will teach you how to read pitches.

Re: Hitting Help/Tips Needed.

use zone hitting, and just set the PCI in a inside or outside and swing only if the ball is in the zone. Try focusing on only the ball and not the pitcher's motion or anything like that. Try to get ahead in the count and then wait for your pitch. All easier said than done but the only way to break out of bad habits and gain patience at the plate is through practice.

Re: Hitting Help/Tips Needed.

This is what I mean by watching the pitcher. When he starts to windup or from the stretch move your eyes to the shoulder of his throwing arm and tell yourself DONT track the ball into the catcher glove if your eyes follow the ball to the plate on a take a pitcher can throw you off by changing speeds and your tracking system will not work. Count 1 2 if your eyes move before the count of 2 you are following the ball to the plate. Read that thread and it will help you.

Re: Hitting Help/Tips Needed.

I had the same issues. The only time I didn't when I hit a 88 MPH 4SFB with Jose Bautista and on default difficulty. He went deep with it and it felt so unreal. Now since that HR I've only been able to get at most doubles. Every time I tend to swing it always says too early. Also how many of you guys have had a perfectly pitched strike be called a ball? One more thing how do I send my manager to talk to the ump or is that not in 13 The Show? Those are my concerns and I hope I can get used to hitting.
