Stupid question looking for a stupid answer (re: MiLB)

I'm not sure what goes into the whole business side of the game, both with MLB and the MLBPA. However, I worked in the minor leagues many years ago, and we did all sorts of business with the MiLB national folks regarding merchandise etc. Obviously SECA had to do the same thing to get the real logos etc into the game.

Question is, why couldn't they strike a deal with the MiLB stakeholders to add the minor league players into the game? There's got to be an easy answer, but I've never seen it discussed.

Certainly would save a lot of time and effort by a lot of dudes this time of year.

Thanks

Tick Tock...

They would have to strike a deal with each MiLB player, individually... or all-inclusively with the MiLB Player's Association; Which doesn't exist.

If that was the case, then they (in theory) could solicit each player to replicate their likeness. There are only 1800 or so players. You could hire some high school kids to send that paperwork out..wouldn't even cost you that much.

That would be a lot of work, actually. Some unification would definitely be needed... I'm sure a number of these players would try to capitalize more than others.

Sort of on topic, here is an article arguing both sides for a minor league PA/union.

Awesome. Suspected it was a "not worth it" type of deal, but never really heard specifics.

Always think of that when so many guys around here put in so much time and effort. Especially with a baseball game like this, where DEPTH of minor league teams are so important.

I guess it's good they give players/communities the chance to edit them, so could certainly be worse.

Do you realize how much that would cost?
If each player wanted $1000 for their likeness, youre talking about $1.8M just to get the minors in the game that the OSFM does for free.

Even if they only wanted $500, thats still almost $1M.
Its not worth it.
