New York Yankees

Im very into realism in games and just always pick a team to rebuild. but this year is the first year the Yankees really could be used as a rebuild team so many aging guys tthis year iit's going to be a rough season. what are your thoughts on a possible rebuild of ny or possible mmoves you would make

Re: New York Yankees

For a rebuild strategy I'd give Melky Mesa a chance as a 5th Outfielder

Try to get A-Rod traded at all possible costs and have Youkilis as the full time 3rd Baseman (at least for the first season)

When OSFM comes out I will try and see if I can use Ronnie Mustelier
as the backup 3rd Baseman (will replace Youkilis after the season is over)

After the 2013 season I'd let Chris Stewart go and share the Catcher position with Francisco Cervelli and Austin Romine

After Andy Pettitte retires, David Phelps will battle Michael Pineda for the 5th Starting Job

David Robertson will be the closer for the 2014 season as I will give Mark Montgomery time to develop in the minors.

Offer Curtis Granderson a long-term contract

If Robinson Cano decides to sign elsewhere I'd give the second base job to Corban Joseph

After Ichiro's contract is up I'd re-sign Melky Cabrera

Those are great ideas Will. As a Yankees fan, I am tired of Arod and would want to trade him away if I could or just remove him from the 40 man roster..for a long time (like forever). I do like Granderson a lot but id be willing to trade Granderson and a few prospects to Miami to get Stanton on the team. He is about to hit his prime and would be a great player to build a team around. In my franchise, I may try to do this and get Stanton on the team. I also would want to see about SS as I believe Jeter may be on his way out. Would give Nunez a shot at short to see if he pans out. If not, I would see who is out there.

I think the real world team is going to be more challenged than the "In Game" team. It's been quite a run for the Yankees. There was a time when the Montreal Canadiens were the most successful pro sports franchise, but the Yankees took over that spot at least a decade ago and I doubt anyone will match them (Montreal being the closest, but they haven't won in 19 years).

There's probably no way Tex would "realistically" get moved. However if that doesn't bother you maybe you could build a package for Andrus who would be a perfect replacement for Jeter. Or you could look at someone like Olt who is a solid prospect and would fill in nicely at 3B if you decide to dump A-Rod.

Me personally, I had a # of ideas for this team this year get thawrted by the recent signings of retreads. I like to keep it somewhat realistic so I'll probably just play the season out with the likes of Vernon Wells. Eventually though I do have a few ideas for what I'd like to do with the team:

Either deal Granderson or let him walk in FA. Too much $ for him and outfield depth in the farm is deep.

Bring Montgomery up around July-Aug and groom him to be rivera's successor or Robertson's future setup man.

Depending on how well I perfrom with Hughes I may have both Phelps and Nova in the rotation with Hughes in the pen. Either way he's gone by next year as hes going to command WAY to much $ in real life so the Yanks will let him walk.

And lastly, steering away from realism and going towards what I would do if i was the GM, I would deal Cano before the deadline in a three team deal for Stanton. Cano is amazing, but he's going to be overpaid and for a long time. So I would move him and put a package of prospects together for Stanton who is a stud just about to enter his prime.

Re: New York Yankees

you have very similar ideas that I have in mind. everyone wants Stanton on the Yanks! I would keep wells first season but may try n trade Granderson to a contender in the nl for a prospect. I did have a similar trade in mine for Andrus also I would like to get Jose Iglesias to good of a glove n sox have pretty much given up on him. went to a lot of his minor league games he makes on a single night other ss don't make all season

Interesting. Didnt think of trading Cano but might be worth thinking to convince the Marlins to give up Stanton. He will prolly seek a long term contract such as the one Arod has and I am not sure if the Yanks (in real life) will be willing to go that long again. Will keep this in mind. Maybe I can package Arod and Cano in a deal for Stanton Only way I see any team wanting to take Arod.
