Re: NFL Helmet rule passes

Not sure, but I hate this rule. Goal line stands will really suck, now. Any run that is a sweep is going to suck. Any RB trying to fight for more yardage is going to get flagged. Most RB's will choose to run out of bounds before too long, likely. I'm about sick of this crap with Goodell and the owners killing the sport. They know exactly what they are doing, too. They want to lower the cost of after-retirement health care to ex-players, so they are doing everything they can to make the game to where it isn't really a contact sport anymore.

I wrote a blog already about what they should do - just widen the field of play. If bigger, "faster," stronger is the issue of safety per today, then widening the field gives guys more room to offset the speed and momentum that has increased over the years. It's scientifically factual, so I'm not just blowing smoke. It can be proven.

Re: NFL Helmet rule passes

Shouldn't each and every player actually playing the games be who votes, though? It's crazy the owners get to decide all of this.

So is Madden going to take out the truck stick now????.....because it sure looks like they're lowering their head when that thing is pushed forward....

It wouldn't surprise me considering the NFL supposedly doesn't let them use tats on players anymore

Re: NFL Helmet rule passes

it shouldnt affect the truck stick. I believe the rule says that a penalty applies only when the running back is outside the tackle box.

You could then keep the truck stick by pressing up on the stick and if you lean the stick up/left or up/right you could have the RBs lean with their shoulders in either direction...

Re: NFL Helmet rule passes

I am cool with it, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Meaning the defense can't use the helmet to spear, now neither can the offense. I also hope they extend this to include offensive face masking because it's unfair and just as dangerous to allow ball carriers to apply hands to the face of would be tacklers but not the other way around.

I think people get too caught up in the actual rule, which takes awhile for the refs to sort out how to properly enforce versus the spirit of the rule. What it seems to me the NFL is trying to do is way more psychological in the respect of making players become more conditioned not to try to "destroy" or hurt each other. The notion that these rule changes will somehow lessen the quality of football, is subjective and I think it comes from some peoples reluctance for change. The NFL was far more violent back years ago and has become less so as the popularity of the sports has grown and more youth became involved. The NFL is the pinnacle of football and therefore sets the example. There is plenty of depth and entertainment to the game of football, other than the violence and the less major injuries the better for the sport long term.

Anyway, just my two cents but so called civil society amazes me at times, lol.

As far as Madden goes, I hope it does effect the way they make it and stop focusing on highlights. Instead create Madden to represent football processes.
