Trout's speed rating?

The game has him at 93, and is that realistic? Should it be higher?

I would say that's probably a good stat to have him at. Especially until he drops some of those off season pounds he gained.

Re: Trout's speed rating?

IMO, The only 99 ratings for base-running speed should be for those who show it on the field all the time at an extremely higher level than the rest of the competition, like in Vince Coleman or Ricky Henderson's prime years. (100+ bases stolen those years to go along with their great speed). I think he is fine where he is, maybe too high if anything. He hasn't even gotten close to their numbers, relatively speaking.

I have to look but I'm pretty sure there are players with 99 speed in the game, Dee Gordon is one.

Brett Gardner has a 98 and I'm pretty sure Trout would win a footrace...

I think you have a valid point there. However, I can see Dee Gordon at 99 speed and I'm not sure Trout is as fast, maybe 96, 97, or at most a possible 98.

I've played with Trout and seen him get thrown out trying for a double, and saw him make a base running mistake and get thrown out at third base. Now that stuff really shocked me for a guy rated 90 for base running.

I wanted to try stealing with auto base running so I sent Dee Gordon to second--he got thrown out by Posey. Last year, runners stole 87 bases on Posey and he threw out 38. My impression is the game loves Posey and when the game loves you, you get privileges

Re: Trout's speed rating?

93 would be about right if there weren't so many guys rated higher. I think Juan Pierre is still a 97 or something.

He had the best "speed" score according to fangraphs by a pretty good margin:

Re: Trout's speed rating?

For stolen bases raw speed is only one part of the equation, its much more important for baserunning (home to first time, triples, 1st to 3rd on a single, etc.) and defense. I'd say the only RH batter who gets down the 1st base line quicker than Trout is Bourjos, not sure why he only got an 87...
