Free Agency in franchise mode (offseason)

How is it going? I saw one post about offering Nelson Cruz 4/50 mil and he took 3 yr /22 mil. I hope that is not evident everywhere.

I haven't done it yet but even the case you posted, I could see happening in real life. To someone like him, at this point he probably cares more about championships and location more than money so it depends who was making those offers.

For some reason I can't sign any big name free agents, I'm the yankees, I have 28 mil in budget, I have all my minor leaguers signed etc. but every time I offer a contract for a elvis andrus or clayton kershaw it says I can't afford the contract.. when I clearly can... anybody else have this issue?

You don't turn down 25 mil to play for a losing team. Which is what is happening.

Yes, I've experienced this as well. I thought it was just because I was playing as the Astros. It is as if the game is doing some under the hood calculation that you will need x amount of dollars to re-sign players currently on your team.

Re: Free Agency in franchise mode (offseason)

The number on the left is the total budget available. The number on the right is your contracts out. Lets say you have 20 million available(left) and have 15 million out(right) that means you have 5 million to spend. Now if you have alot of open roster spots the cpu puts away money to fill those. So even in the beginning if you have 20 on the left and 0 on the right doesn't mean you can sign a player for 15 million, because you still will have about 40 roster spots to fill.

Just like real life Astros aren't going out and signing the big name right away. As the Yankees Cano's deal and to a lesser extent AROD is killing me. Around is sucking up 5 million and not even good enough to start.

I am going to definitely be doing a sim franchise with a small market team this year to see if I can win and build a winner.

Couple things I've noticed. One, players salary is an average salary, so if you sign a guy at 3 years 30 mil, then youre looking at paying him 9 mil year 1, 10 mil year 2, 11 mil 3 year (Not exact numbers).

Additionally, when you offer arbitration, they budget out to the highest amount the arbitration can be awarded. That is a killer if you only have an 8 mil budget and have 4 or 5 players arb eligible.

I would like for them to eliminate this offer has been pulled because you can't afford it. I see clearly I have 20 mil in my budget, and know i can offer so and so 10 million a year. If i get to the point where I can't afford guys, either allow me to take a loan, or force me to cut or trade players until I can make my finances work,

i have same issue with Mets. says I have 6MIL in available budget and no pending contracts. But when I try to sign two roster-fillers for 400K each, It withdraws it because I don't have the available budget. I clearly do. Its pretty annoying, I've lost chances at singing other guys too cause of this
