I really enjoy this game even with all it's little nuances like sliding it's still fun to play. I mostly play MyCareer however so, I can't say for other modes. I played a little bit of Association but, it wasn't as enticing as EA's GM mode or franchise mode. As far as playing MyCareer I really enjoy it. The one thing I've noticed that sort of saddened me was how little defensive tools there are available. On offense I can set screens, cut to the basket, call for ally-oops, toss ally-oops, crossover for days, throw lead passes, bounce passes, call for screens, and of course run plays. Offensively we're set but, defensively it's a whole different story. We have a steal and block button that you pretty much want to avoid using unless you want to play catch-up or get fouled out early. The Intense D feature is a step in the right direction but, again you can end up out of position easily if used at the wrong time. RS defense is the safest way to play defense, but it can feel unfulfilling like we're just waiting for our turn to play offense.

The game in whole is fun, offensive tools are abundant and fun to use but, defense needs to be given another look. Let's think, what controls or features could they add to make playing defense more fun?

Defense was severely overlooked this year.

RS defense should only be used to put hands up to contest shots IMO. THey went overboard by making almost everying automated therfore removing player skill

I agree I only use the RS to put hands up those silly lunging animations are terrible for playing the passing lanes again putting you out of position on defense.

Defense doesnt feel intuitive and is hard to control in general IMHO. This is why people who play online play off the ball defense 9 times out of 10. I have now idea how to improve this but I hope they do.

I love the defense in this game. Much better than 2k11 and 2k12.

I agree it's almost like you have to want to play defense to realize how good it is in the game.

For me it's like because steals and blocks are so random you really feel the excitement when a steal occurs and you go scrambling for the ball or get a blocks how that turns into a fastbreak.

Well you see I always want to play defense but, again in this game it seems more like your trying not to do anything so, you don't get out of position rather than actually defending. I was always the defensive anchor in high school always calling out screens picking off passes ect.

The only thing I am saying is that with the slow animations on defense it makes it too hard to take any chances for interceptions and things like that. I'm not saying I can't play defense I'm saying I can't thrive on defense. Here's an official suggestion:

L2/Left trigger: Defensive stance/Defensive modifier.
X: Steal (A true reach)
Y: Block/Jump
B: Take Charge
L2+B: Plant feet for charge without leaving defensive stance
L2+X: Disrupt ball handler (Not a true reach)
L2+Y: Disrupt shot (Doesn't leave feet)
RS+Down: Defensive Stance
RS+Up: Hands up/Disrupt shot
L1/LB: Call for double team
A: Switch players and when in MyCareer or player lock acts as L1/LB
