BREAKING NEWS OUT OF RALEIGH

Raleigh, NC: Breaking news has emerged from Raleigh today, as the Carolina Hurricanes have announced the hiring of a new General Manager. Matt McKeown, a Raleigh native, has stepped in at the head of the Hurricanes organization.

McKeown has immediately gotten to work, attending the Hurricanes preseason practice this afternoon at RCI.

"My goal is to get this team back to the playoffs. Once we get there, we easily become the team to beat", McKeown told reporters. A playoff berth would be the first for Carolina since the 2008-09 season. Furthermore, McKeown looks to bring the Cup back to Raleigh for the first time since 2006, and what would be only the second time in franchise history.

The offseason additions of Alexander Semin and Jordan Staal, as well as the re-signing of Joe Corvo and contract extension of star-forward Tuomo Ruutu certainly give Caniacs something to look forward to. Expectations will be high in Raleigh this year. It will be interesting to see what a new GM can do for the Carolina organization.

Canes Lines Set for Opening Night
The Carolina Hurricanes have officially announced their lines for tonight's matchup against Winnipeg. These are the lines we will likely continue to see this season, pending any injuries or roster moves. Sanguinetti is a healthy scratch tonight, alongside Zac Dalpe. We will likely see Sanguinetti alternate games with either Harrison or McBain as one of the D-men on the 3rd pair this season.

Ladd Leads Jets to Opening Night Victory

Winnipeg, MB It was quite a night for the Winnipeg captain. Andrew Ladd scored 2 goals, and added an assist in the Jets 6-3 victory over Carolina on Saturday night at MTS Centre. Although the Hurricanes got off to a quick start, netting 2 goals midway through the first period, it was a 3-goal second period from Winnipeg that would eventually decide this game.

Carolina's captain, Eric Staal, also had a night to remember. Staal netted 2 goals on 5 shots, and was a +1 in 17:37 of ice time.

Carolina is likely to be having nightmares tonight, as they were burnt by Alexei Ponikarovsky, who played for the Hurricanes until the trade deadline of last season. Ponikarovsky scored a goal and added an assist on Ladd's first goal of the night. Olli Jokinen also scored twice for Winnipeg, and it was Tuomo Ruutu who began the scoring for Carolina in the first period.

Carolina continues this 6-game road trip to begin the season, as they head out west to face Vancouver, Anaheim, Los Angeles, and San Jose next week. The road trip concludes in Boston on October 23rd before the Hurricanes open their home-ice season at PNC Arena on October 26th against the Rangers.

Brent Out with MCL Sprain, Dalpe to Start

Bad news for the Hurricanes, as Center Tim Brent will be out 4 to 5 weeks with what has been diagnosed as an MCL Sprain. Zac Dalpe is expected to step in and fulfill the role of 4th Line Center.

Carolina GM Matt McKeown also announced today that RW Andreas Nodl has been recalled from Charlotte. Nodl is expected to be a healthy scratch Monday night in Vancouver.

Canucks Win 3rd Straight, Luongo Blanks Canes

Vancouver, BC Roberto Luongo recorded a shutout Monday night in Vancouver, as the 'Nucks blanked Carolina, 2-0. The game was close most of the way, and the efforts of Cam Ward earned him first star honors, despite the loss.

Chris Higgins scored the first goal of the game at 14:25 of the 2nd period. The game remained close down the stretch, but the Hurricanes could not find a way to generate any offense. The Canes only put 12 shots on net, despite attempting nearly 40 shots in the game.

Daniel Sedin added a Powerplay Goal at 19:50 of the 3rd period on the empty net to seal the deal for Vancouver.

The Hurricanes will look to put their two-game slump behind them when they head to Anaheim to take on the Ducks later this week.

Re: Tracking the Storm: A Carolina Hurricanes Dynasty

Following this one. I did a Hurricanes dynasty last year and I had lots of fun. Good luck with yours.

Do you play all your games or sim? Are you outplayed those 2 games? Shots 12 to 39 and 23 to 42. What is your difficulty Superstar/All Star/Pro?

I was outplayed in the first two games, but the sliders definitely need some tweaking. I'll be doing that before I play more games.
