Brining back madden 2005

I played madden 2005 for my ps2 today and it made me remember why I fell in love with madden. The franchise mode is just amazing. Im the type of player that sims all the games and takes pride in rebuilding a team through the draft and handling every aspect of my team. I do believe gameplay has evolved tremendously but how the franchise mode (well ccm) became what is it is today is horrible. The way EA has whored such an amazing game is just beyond me.

However I did not make this thread to complain I can do that in all the other threads. I made this thread to see if anyone else still plays madden 05 or would be willing to. I'm starting a franchise tonight and want to post how it goes and discuss it along with any others who would want to do the same and hopefully if there is a way to update rosters find someone to help me.

And does anyone know if online still works for ps2 ?

i agree...i have the madden 2005 collector's edition and it's my favorite edition for a number of reasons. why change so much that worked well for the game? it seemed like as soon as ea locked up the nfl license (right after that game), the creativity went out the window.

Re: Brining back madden 2005

Sheredia I agree man it's a damn shame it's come to this.

Ok so I started my franchise did a fantasy draft went 9-7 first year my team lost last game of the season and missed the playoffs. Offseason went well had a good draft 1st and 2nd round guys both 72 and 71 over all. My diamond in the rough was that mike Vick was a free agent thank god as I went with Big Ben at QB and was probably my weakest area.

2nd season went 18-1 pulled a New England and lost the Super Bowl. Offseason went well again draft wasnt as good but wasnt terrible. I brought in Eddie George to be a back up rb waiting to see how this season goes hopefully ill win it all and he can retire with a ring.

I really took this game for granted. The progression system is perfect. My 9-7 team barely had any improvement most players actually went down a pt or 2 in overall but my second season I had to part way with free agents due to their rapid overall increase due to going 18-1. Just as it would be in real life my guys got noticed and made money I let about 6 players go.

Free agency has a ticker at the bottom that tells you who signed where and what they're contract was worth. The scouting is t terribly hard or boring and stupid yet meaningful enough that if you want a good draft you have to do it. Restricted free agents are great help you keep young players. This game is fantastic o and who doesn't love the tony Bruno show.

I was thinking roster updating wise if we could get 8 people together and everyone do a division such as afc north, east, etc it wouldn't be so bad and we could post what we did on here and everyone can adjust their rosters accordingly since we can't just plug a USB in. Let me know if anyone is interested!

Re: Brining back madden 2005

I agree totally I think this is the best sports game ever IMHO. If the could make 2005 with today's graphic that game would be perfect we should had that by at least 2009. This game was the last Madden that was a drastic improvement even on P2 while the game were much better than their next gen counter parts through Madden 2011, 2005 was still the best and outside a new often questionable feature there was no significant improvement after that. The Next gen system improved on in graphics. Heck even Madden ultimate team was basically just Madden Cards with a price tag. I think Madden 12 was headed in right direction It only needs a lot of slider work (it will take over 20 games to get it to play right). Personally I think 2013 fixed thinks that weren't broke, user control taking away all game mode except one that has more bug that has more bug than a roach motel. Others love it but they could have added IE twitter feeds and the ability to come out of retirement to m12 and that would have made more gamers happy but instead the spent their energy trying to make every one play online and limited roster customization and less time making sure CCM was playable long term.

@bleedgreen I've seen your work and I'm a fan of what you do with your 04 pc version but I'm no CPU genius I'm a guy who sits down with a beer and gets his franchise on so for me it's gets no better than 2005.

The fact that Cleveland rocks and i (I'm a huge steelers fan born and raised in the burgh) agree its the best sports game ever is saying something. Normally it's just natural for me to discredit him and say he's wrong but my man got this one right

Re: Brining back madden 2005

I have gone back to playing Madden 2005 on the PS2 as well. Sure it lacks in graphics and everything is out of date but for franchise mode it ranks #1 to me. My son who is 10 just couldn't grasp the fact that I was playing a game almost as old as him. He doesn't understand better graphics doesn't equal better games just yet. It works out fine because the kids play on the PS3 and I have the PS2 to myself.

Dear god, I loved that game. I loved the season previews, I loved the team chemistry, I loved the Radio show, I loved the player comparisons in the draft. I loved how when you moved your team to a new location it actually felt like the commentators and culture of your team changed. The Defensive interactions were unbeatable, player progression was dead on, and ultimately it is the only madden Ive played that felt complete.
