Which Shooting Extreme Do You Prefer: More Makes or More Misses?

This question is for those who had a chance to play 2K13 when the shooting was tuned in a way that wide open looks clanked a lot.

Now that we have shooting sliders back to their OG setting, which one do you like more? Nearly every shot, including contested ones, falling. Or having to work hard for a shot, and sometimes still missing wide open looks?

Unfortunately, there is no middle ground. With the previous tuning update, the game became a little linear, as 3 chuckers, and erratic players were extremely unsuccessful on the perimeter, so they had to resort to strictly paint abusing. It was a much more pleasurable experience defensively though. The only disappointment, is that the earned open looks, didn't fall often.

As it stands now, your players will hit their open shots at a pretty high rate, but on the opposite end of that, user players are nailing three pointers at a pretty high clip as well, mostly of the contested sort. I embrace the concept of some shots that I figure to be ill-advised will swish occasionally, but the current setup is too consistent with craziness.

This game is heavily geared towards the offensive player, and with the new isomotion setup, guys are getting bailed out, it doesn't take more than a dribble to the opposite direction sometimes, to completely free yourself from a defender, regardless of the ballhandler, and then hoist up 3 that will fall. I'm sure this might get labeled as a complaint post, but I just wanted to see some thoughts about this.

2KSports is going to need to implement a more dynamic matchmaking system, we need one in which we can search for certain settings, such as slider set, quarter length, difficulty, opponent preference, etc.

Shooting is fine and was always fine.

Everyone should be working for their looks. I don't mind when I miss wideeee open shots. It's basketball wide open shots are missed every night in the NBA.
I also don't mind when players hit tough, contested shots. Guys hit tough, ridiculous contested shots every night in the NBA.

It's a make or miss league, you either make the shot or miss it.

Was it fine when contested, off dribble threes went in too easily or was it fine after the adjustment where open looks were usually misses?

This is online for what it's worth.

Re: Which Shooting Extreme Do You Prefer: More Makes or More Misses?

The problem is that the settings change effected MUCH MORE than just SHOOTING....

All everyone wants to talk about is how the settings effected 3-pt shooting, but the FACT is they effected MUCH more.

I think so many people play such a arcade style of simply launching 3's that the ONLY thing they noticed that changed was the 3's....because that's all they really do.

So much more changed with the settings change and the reset back to the old settings is a serious step BACK for 2K.

The more difficult settings really displayed how GREAT this game can be...but the 3-pt shooting was nerfed a little too much.

So instead of fixing just that....they reset the settings back to the old levels that turn this game into an NBA Jam-style cheeserfest of nonsense.

These settings quickly display all the FAULTS this game has because of how simple it is to BREAK the game at these LOW difficulty levels.

Besides the low 3-pt rate, the game was MUCH better at the increased difficulty settings.

And even the 3's were nowhere near as "impossible" as many people made them out to be...most people just didn't even TRY to adjust to the change - they just cried and complained.

Which is now the audience 2K apparently is aiming for....younger, casual, immature gamers who want to play NBA 2K at 1000 MPH like it's Call of Duty or NBA Jam.....

Blah!

Re: Which Shooting Extreme Do You Prefer: More Makes or More Misses?

I feel like I've had to relearn how to play defense ever since the revert to the old settings. You're right, it is deeper than just 3 pointers, the margin for error on defense has gotten even smaller.

I just recently noticed that with the revert, most of my controller settings were switched back to default as well. After a transition play in which it felt like my player was being controlled by someone else, I went to check and I saw that all my "Absolute" settings were back at "Camera Relative". The switch back has thus made defending a tad smoother, but the extremely small window for mishaps remains.

What game mode are you talking about?

I've never experienced that in Hof simulation.

As far as online gameplay is concerned, the shooting was never fine. The shooting, with a bevy of other logical concepts employed were never fine, and currently aren't.

Chaotic, erratic players still get bailed out after bad possessions.
