Craziest Finishes
So I'm playing 08 for the first time in a while, and after a bit of tinkering with the rosters I'm the Twins playing at Tropicana Field. Livan Hernandez has a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 7th after the Rays pulled Matt Garza in the top half. 2 outs, Carlos Pena on first, Dioner Navarro singles. I decide to pull Livan for Dennys Reyes, because Gabe Gross sucks against lefties. I get burned. Gross singles home Pena (I think it was the first pitch of the AB), and it's tied. In comes Boof Bonser to face Jason Bartlett, who puts it in the first row in left. 5-2 Rays. Upton and Zobrist give him some more trouble, but no more runs in the inning.
In the 8th, I go down, and Pat Neshek comes in and sets down the Rays in 10 pitches (2 K's).
Enter the top of the 9th vs. one Troy Percival. After a long AB, Jason Kubel singles, and Michael Cuddyer is able to send him to third on a hit-and-run. Delmon Young strikes out on a 3-2 fastball after another long at-bat (which definitely wouldn't happen with the actual Delmon Young), bringing up Brendan Harris. He hits "a little nubber" (taken from Steve Busby) past Pena into the corner, bringing in Kubel, but Cuddyer has to stay at third. With two runners in scoring position, Nick Punto hits a sac fly to left, bringing in Cuddyer and advancing Harris, but Carlos Gomez has to bring Harris in with two outs. Strike one down I swing at and miss. Major League enters my head. Harris breaks for the plate as the speedy Gomez squares around... and misses! But the ball goes by Navarro! Harris scores, Gomez would K, and we would go into extras after Pat Neshek makes quick work of the bottom of the Rays' order.
Top of the 10th, JP Howell comes in for Tampa Bay. Matt Tolbert (who had come in earlier for 3-time K victim Alexi Casilla) hits a basic, routine grounder to Evan Longoria... who bounces a throw past Carlos Pena. Tolbert advances to second, and is moved to third via a Joe Mauer groundout. Up comes Justin Morneau with the infield in. Howell gets him to break his bat and send a grounder to the left, but since Longoria was in, he can't get it even on the dive. Tolbert scores, 6-5 Twins. In the bottom half, I pull Neshek (despite his 17-1 strike-to-ball ratio) for Joe Nathan, and 1-2-3 go the Rays. Ballgame.
And that is one of the more crazy finishes I've had on The Show. What are some of yours?
(There was a thread for this type of thing in the Show, but the last post was all the way back in 2007.)
