Let's talk about injuries

So I've really been looking at injuries lately, trying to figure out what's the main cause of serious injuries. For a long time, I thought it was the injury rating but I think that's less of a factor now.

I think what is more important now is Durability and Overall Health. To a lesser extent, health of the individual body part. I'll use 2 examples, Andre Johnson and Early Doucet. Doucet has a 66 injury rating, Johnson 51. The difference is the health for the individual body parts. Johnson has only one body part with health less than 70%. Doucet has 3 body parts with health less than 60%, one less than 50%. They both have a 83 Durability rating, but there's a 83-75 gap in their individual health.

That's what I think you really need to look at-health for the individual body parts and individual health. Injury rating just reflects how frequently you might get injured, individual health will determine how serious the injury is. I know Johnson might get injured frequently but his IH will mean it will only be for the game, not a sustained period. Keep that Durability from dropping into Normal and Fragile by looking at IH.

I agree 100%.

Look at AP I believe his injury rating is somewhere in the 70s but he has 1 leg that is in awful shape.

Have you ever gotten the last trainer skill (can't think of the name right now)?

Does that repair the injured area to 100% or just bring it back to the original level?

I haven't got it, but I think someone on these forums once did. I believe it restores health to the body part at what it was before the injury.

i'm still working out why some players recover health after a injury, and others see a permanent reduction in their health to a specific body part.

A good example here is Joe Staley and Paul Abbamonte. Paul had a permanent health drop to 81% in his head after a concussion, but Staley recovered health after his leg was injured till he got back to 80%.

The best I've ever done was purchase two trainer skills, and that took years and years... if you got to the last one, you are a real iron man franchise player in my eyes.

I believe durability plays into how much IH a player gains or loses per body part. What really gets me, is when a guy with 99s across the board goes down for the year. Seems to happen far to often to me.

Re: Let's talk about injuries

While on the topic of injuries, let's talk about health recovery. I have held players out of practice and games for several weeks, through health and fatigue and inactives, for them to not recover any health. This seems to be the way for players to recover health but I haven't seen any results. Am I missing out on something here? Don't mean to threadjack Mrs. but felt it was related. I have searched in the past and they have instructed as I mentioned above.

Re: Let's talk about injuries

Skarecrow-it's been mentioned previously that with all the good trainers that come into the league after the 1st year, you see fewer injuries later in a career. I've got the first 2 skills after 3 years, but the Texans start with a lot of players that aren't very durable.

Revan-a lot of the the time a player will lose durability after recovering from a injury, but good to know.

Moped-I know that players recover health if you cancel a practice, lose health if they practice. As for inactive-I never really inactive key players, so not sure on that.

Re: Let's talk about injuries

I have Robert Wyman as my Trainer, and have had him for two years. Last year there were few injuries, but this year there have been more than just a few. MY RT has been hurt twice on QB Kneel plays. The last time put him out for four weeks--Logan Mankins.

Larry Fitzgerald was out for three weeks and his injury rating is 89 with toughness at 93 or 95.
