NBA 2K13 3pt Rating Formula

(Most 3’s made in a Season) + Career 3pt% = Rating

Tier X{0 to 2}Rating always = 25
Tier 0{3 to 9} Rating always = 39
Tier 1{10 to 75}31+Career 3pt % = Rating
Tier 2{76 to 125}43+Career 3pt % = Rating
Tier 3{126 to 175}44+Career 3pt % = Rating
Tier 4{176 to 225}45+Career 3pt % = Rating
Tier 5{226 & Up} 52+Career 3pt % = Rating

How it works:

Take the highest number of 3pt field goals a player has made in a single season in their career.
See where that number falls in the brackets and then add the number(If there is one) to the right of the bracket with the player’s Career 3 point percentage. And that should give you the RATING!!

Here’s an example: Ray Allen made 269 Three Pointers in the 2005-06 Season with the Seattle Supersonics. Therefore he falls in the Tier 5 bracket. His career 3pt% is 40 percent as of now.
40%+52=92. If he improves his Career 3pt% to 41 throughout the season, that would make him a 93 rating.

Ray Allen: 269 Career 39% (92 Rating)

Some more examples:
Steve Nash:179 Career 43%(88 Rating)
Dirk Nowitzki:151 Career 38%(82 Rating)
LeBron James:132 Career 32%(76 Rating)
Dwyane Wade:88 Career 29%(72 Rating)
Lamar Odom: 80 Career 32% (75 Rating)
Vince Carter:162 Career 37%(81 Rating)
Jason Terry:172 Career 38%(82 Rating)
Derrick Rose: 128 Career 30%(74 Rating)
Mehmet Okur: 129 Career 37%(81 Rating)
Kevin Love: 88 Career 37% (80 Rating)
Matt Bonner: 118 Career 41%(84 Rating)
Kobe Bryant: 180 Career 33% (78 Rating)
DereK Fisher:144 Career 37%(81 Rating)
Troy Murphy: 161 Career 38% (82 Rating)
Jason Kapono: 108 Career 43% (86 Rating)
Josh McRoberts: 23 Career 33% (64 Rating)
Brad Miller: 40 Career 32% (63 Rating)
Andray Blatche: 13 Career 23% (44 Rating)
Channing Frye: 172 Career 40%(84 Rating)
Andrea Bargnani: 121 Career 37%(80 Rating)
Charlie Villanueva: 125 Career 34%(77Rating)
Jonas Jerebko: 36 Career 31%(62 Rating)
*Al Harrington: 171 Career 35%(79 Rating)
Ryan Anderson: 134 Career 37%(81 Rating)
Amar’e Stoudamire: 10 Career 24%(55 Rating)
Jared Jeffries: 21 Career 25%(56 Rating)
Steve Novak: 119 Career 41%(84 Rating)
*Josh Smith: 51 Career 28%(59 Rating)
Vladimir Radmanovic: 140 Career 38%(82 Rating)
Brian Cook: 78 Career 39%(82 Rating)
Brian Scalabrine: 44 Career 34%(65 Rating)
Dahntay Jones: 23 Career 32% (63 Rating)
Antwuan Jamison: 147 Career 34%(78 Rating)

Rookie scale

(3pts made per game)+Season 3pt%= Rating
Tier 0(0.1 to 0.2)15+Season 3pt%
Tier 1(0.3 to 1.1)35+Season 3pt%
Tier 2(1.2 to 1.7)37+Season3pt%
Tier 3(1.8 to 2.4)39+Season 3pt%
Tier 4(2.5 & up)41+Season 3pt%

How it works:

Look at how many 3 pointers the rookie player is making per game. See where the number falls in the brackets. Then take the number to the right of the bracket and add it to their season 3pt percentage.

2012-13 THREE POINTERS LEADERS: 3-Point FG Percentage

Kim English 0.8 3pts per game 50%+35=85 rating
Jeremy Lamb 0.5 50%+35=85 rating
Darius Miller 0.6 50%+35=85 rating
Kyle Singler 1.1 45%+35=80 rating
Damian Lillard 2.4 40%+39=79 rating
Dion Waiters 1.9 37%+39=76 rating

All this are 3PT% from 12/1/2012

Draft class Makers can use the same Rookies formula to do the 3PT Rating

Tell me what you think.

Re: NBA 2K13 3pt Rating Formula

Lol, I have been trying to come up with some kind of formula myself but i can never find one that works across the board. This is a good one no doubt but it seems like the top 4 or 5 3 point shooters should at least be in the low 90's but if you do that then the formula rates middle of the pack players to high. It has been an endless cycle for me.

Re: NBA 2K13 3pt Rating Formula

I did however come up with a formula I really like to come up with what a players overall rating should be.

Take the players average PER over a 3 year period.

Subtract 15 from that number (15 is the league average PER)

Multiply that by 1.6 and add 75. Adust a few points one way or the other depending on the defensive skill for that particular player.

Ex 1 Kobe Bryants average PER over the last 3 years is 22.613
Subtract 15 and you get 7.613
Multiply by 1.6 and you get 12.181
Add 75 and you get about an 87 overall but Kobe is considered a very good defender so i would bump it to high 80's or low 90's overall.

Ex 2 Ben Gordon avg 3 year PER is 13.567
Subtract 15 and you get -1.433
Multiply by 1.6 to get -2.29
Add 75 and you get 72.703 or about a 73 but Gordon is a notoriously poor defender so subtract a few points and you get about a low 70 overall.

Works great for me in determining about what a player should be rated overall.

Re: NBA 2K13 3pt Rating Formula

I usually just take their % and double it, and if it's under 45% I add 5. Anything above 45% is a 90.

Re: NBA 2K13 3pt Rating Formula

Nice, simple formula, I like it for the most part. The only problem I have with it is it skews ratings for guys who

A. Used to be good shooters, and have lost their touch in the past season or so.

B. Used to be poor shooters, and have found their tough in the last season or two.

So it doesn't exactly provide accurate year to year ratings, but as a comprehensive rating of what a player is capable of, it works beautifully.

First example that comes to mind is Deron Williams this year.

He's a career 35% 3 pt shooter with a max of 115 attempts in his career.

That puts him @ a 78 3 pt rating.

This year he's shooting 27% from 3, so in my opinion 78 is pretty high for a guy only hitting about 1 out of 4 3s. To give some perspective, Pau Gasol is a career 24% 3 pt shooter...
