Coaching Carousel Thread 2012-13

It's that time of year again, with Idaho's Robb Akey being the first of the dominoes to fall.

Wow. Remember how high everyone was on him a few years ago for "turning Idaho around."

Nobody would win on the 1-A level with Idaho. Whoever takes over for the next 2 years has no chance and can't recruit many players while they reduce the number of scholarships down to Big Sky level. It's a hopeless impossible no-win situation.

Apparently Jason Gesser is the replacement. Hope he is a better coach than broadcaster. Though I did love all his malapropisms.

Hell, they are doing him a favor IMHO. That place is impossible to win at if they stay FBS. Add on top of that being Indy and forget about it. The administration and alunmi is delusional to believe that they will survive as an Indy in the middle of nowhere in a 17,000 seat stadium. Akey is damn good coach to me. I watched him coach while Carolina was beating them 66-0 this year in a monsoon and those kids never quit on him and he was still tryin to make adjustments like they were gonna win. Loved his positive energy despite the challenges he faced. In the long run, he will better off for getting the hell out of Mosow. Akey was not only competeting against other teams, he was fighting administration, the reality of Idaho's situation and the fact that their "little brother" Boise State is now a top 20 program while they will be doomed to the FCS eventually.

I don't think Idaho will have a choice but to drop back to FCS in the next few years.

Bummer for Akey though, I loved watching him roam the sidelines as the DC at Washington State. The dude had a massive amount of energy. That being said, congrats to my favorite Coug of all-time, Jason Gesser, for getting the interim gig. Wish him nothing but the best.

Was he the QB when y'all lost to OU in the Rose Bowl back in 2003? I remember him, and I remember him killing USC one year, but I just don't remember which year.
