question about scouting in BaGM

i have completed the task regarding scouting in my BaGM. just a quick question for those who like to have 3-5 years/season of BaGM. how many weeks do you assign in groups of players (F-D-G per league). do you based the weeks on the #'s of prospects? like if the position/league has less than 10 you assigned 1 week? how about in other leagues wherein you have more than 100 or 200 prospects, how many week you assign to it?

thanks in advance.

Re: question about scouting in BaGM

#1 I level up my amateur scout as quickly as possible because I love drafting and developing talent.

#2 The main stat I look for is potential. So I go through the leagues and see which ones have 3,4,5 guys with 3.5 stars or higher and have guys projected to go in the rounds I'm picking.

#3 Most years I have a ton of picks or very few so you have to scout based on the draft picks you do have. If you have 3 1st rounders you want to scout those guys and identify who you like. Or if you don't pick til round 3, you start there. Obviously this can change through trades over the season.

#4 As for the actual assignments I start with the most attractive ones 1st. If USA has a lot of good D in the early rounds and that's what I need I will usually use 5 or 6 weeks. I'll continue to scout for a month the other groups I really like. If you can't decide I'd scout for 3 weeks (1 and 2 are useless by themselves)

Re: question about scouting in BaGM

It depends on the number of prospects of course, I usually do 4-6 weeks unless it is less than 8 prospects or so.

Another thing that is important, if you are a rebuilding team, is that even though you have scouted a few players and their potential is white that does not necessarily mean you are done scouting them. Lets say you are certain you will get a high draft pick in the first round, you then want to know if any of the top prospects are NHL ready. For example there can be maybe 3-4 4,5 star prospects, but only one of them might is NHL ready. Also depends what kind of player you want I guess, but if you have several to choose from or just want the best one this is the way to go.

The last few BaGM I have been a rebuilding team the first couple of years, and after that I just took whoever was the best one. So then I focus my scouting on the top prospects to get a better prediction of their individual stats.

can you do a specific scouting...say just 1 scout a potential player in 1 week?

I tend to always go 6 weeks because I've never seen anything saying it's a bad thing or there is a better way

I always look for potential once the scout is upgraded.

No you cannot.

If there are many potential good draft picks then you do not want to just max out 6 weeks on every group. If there are few prospects in a league it can be enough with just a few weeks to get a good forecast of their potential. After you have got a few prospects with good potential, that is when you focus on a few players but scouting their league.

thanks.... i was hoping that we could zero in to the prospect we want to focus. of course, it will not be all "white" stars. i mean there are many things to consider specially how players would play if put in NHL level. many #3-#7 draft picks that are NHL ready.
