"learning" new position

I have a CDM and have no room for him at his listed position but my team is very weak at RB. So if I play him at RB enough will he learn that as his secondary position? This player is 17 and only has CDM listed as his position, I list that because I don't know if age or number of positions matter for something like this.

This is a good question, i'd like to know the answer too. I don't know if the multiple positions are unlocked as the player grows, or if they can be learned over time.

I have not been able to play for a few days so it hasn't really mattered yet, but does anyone know if this works?

Re: "learning" new position

I would say just play him as a RB if you want to.

However, to answer your question I don't think players can pick up new positions. At least from what I've experienced so far and from what I've heard.

However, also from what I've heard and experienced (although I haven't done it a whole lot to do a thorough test) I don't think that it really matters what his listed position(s) are.

Like, a player will still perform just the same even if you play him "out of position". You don't take a "chemistry" or "awareness" hit for playing out of position. At least that is my impression and what I've heard from others (I don't know that for sure though)

I will say that in my Barca season I played Busquets in the back a few times even though CB is not a listed position for him, and he did fine.

So if you think the player has the attributes to play that position, then I'd say just play him there even though it's not his listed position in the game.

Hope that helps.

This would be fantastic. It always feels wrong when I'm playing a player "out of position." But like the guy who posted above me said, I'm pretty sure preferred positions don't matter in Career Mode.
