In past editions of Madden, i'd be able to start a franchise and play other games on the schedule including my teams game for that week. In CCM it seems that I can only view the weekly schedule. Can I not play other teams' games as well anymore?

Nope, unless you user that team you can not play their games for them.

You have to retire your cuurent coach then choose a different teams existing coach, if you want to play more than 1 teams game in a scheduled week. Kinda a hassle, hope next year they go back to traditional franchise

In the next patch, you can take control of multiple teams. You can probably play others games that way
