Question Re-signing Players and Cap Space in CCM

The Cap Room figure in the free agent re-signing screen looks like a calculation of your actual cap room over the next two years. Is that right?

The reason I ask is a high value player at the end of his contract may be asking for a huge deal that meets your "Cap Room" figure for a 4 or 5 year deal, and before I sign the player, I want to be sure I'm not eating up my whole budget on one player. Using online CCM if I make that mistake there's no walking it back and I don't want to kill my career as a coach.

For example, JPP wants a 5 year $72 million deal from me, but I only have about $58 million "Cap Room." Does that mean I can't sign him? Or, if I had $72 million in my "cap room" budget, would signing him mean I can't sign anyone else?

Thanks. The whole cap budget information is confusing, and the M13ConnectedCareerManual.pdf doesn't specify an answer.

The $72 mil is spread out over all the years of the contract. $58 mil in cap space is a lot of money. The game shows you all of this info when your negotiating the contract I believe. It shows you how much space you have and how much the player is getting per season of said deal.

The 72 million over 5 years means about 14.4 million per year (however it is probably an escalating salary.. I haven't gotten to contract negotiations yet). So essentially if I am correct the contract averages 14.4 million per year of the deal, but probably starts at like 10 million the first year and 18 million the last year.

In short.. yes you can afford to sign him.
