Defensive Issues that need to be Patched

Overall, I think this game is a big improvement from last year. It just feels more alive than last year's, which felt a little robotic. The new dribbling controls were very awkward but I finally got used to them and that too is an improvement (except for the lack of differentiation in styles between players).

Anyway, my biggest complaint with the game is that defense is incredibly frustrating. I have two specific complaints that seem like they could easily be fixed in the future by 2K (and I'm sure these have been mentioned in other threads, but I couldn't find any specifically).

1. Fast break defense is incredibly annoying. If you take a shot and miss and the CPU runs out for a fast break, it takes your team about 3 seconds to turn around and reach full speed while the CPU is almost at the other end for a dunk. Also, most of your teamates jog back on defense rather than run back. Unless the "hustle" stat is actually literal this year, this seems like a glitch because of how unbalanced it is. Maybe it is a coaching issue, like everyone is crashing the boards, but I don't touch those settings with any team. I've also seen my teamates turn to run back, then turn back around, then turn around again. Just the whole transition to defense is incredibly sluggish (but once you are running full speed its not a big deal, just that transition is what kills you).

2. Interior shot blocking is impossible. Its annoying because I watch the CPU do it just fine, with some incredible blocks. But every single time I jump for a block, either my player just does a "half jump" or flails in the air because of "contact" of some sort. Also, if you try to block a dunk or layup, even if your timing is perfect, your hand just goes through the ball anyway (I've watched several replays to see how close I got, and literally my hand went through the ball). Last years game was too easy to block dunks from behind, but this years is the opposite. I thought last years game had blocking lay-ups perfect. This year's game does a great job with jumpshot blocking for spot up shooters, but anything off the move or anything in the paint, your player will just flail around.

Anyway, those were my only two complaints on the core game as a whole (other than the Timberwolves home court still glitched if you zoom the camera in- where the crowd blocks the screen, and the inability to remove signature skills).

If anyone knows how to fix these issues (either with difficulty, or settings), I'd love to know, but other than that I'm just bringing these issues up hoping the next patch will fix them.

2k12 blocking was HORRIBLE thats what killed the game for m i love the blocking this year its great. as for ur hand going through the ball its a video game, if u want real physics go play madden. also up ur blocking slider thats what it is there for.

The defense is just horrible this year sure there are ways to counter it but 2k needs to get the defense correct players can't even contest because of how slow the players are on defense

I think a big factor might be the difficulty. I played my first game on Pro with the default sliders and I completely blew out the team I was playing, so I switched it to All Star and have been toying with all the sliders. However, I just switched it back to Pro but on simulation (like someone in another thread suggested) and it seems to be an improvement. I haven't noticed the fast break issue and I have actually gotten some blocks that normally I would not have gotten. So maybe that is the way to go.

Re: Defensive Issues that need to be Patched

The defense is just terrible. The computer has no problems making contested shot, after contested shot. The real kicker, though, is that when you decide to play a little tighter due to them making everything in your eye, and you finally think you got a block, whistle, it's a foul.

So let's review: You get a hand in a shooter's face, he makes it. You go after the block, it's a foul. If, by the grace of God they do miss a shot without a whistle, they get the offensive rebound because your big men just keep bouncing the ball around, then they end up with an easy dunk or layup. Rarely do they not score a quick two immediately after the board; while your big men huddle around the rebounder, just watching him score.

This has happened to me several times as well on (Superstar/Sim).
