Trade him at deadline and resign.

Give him a player option, no trade clause and max amount of money.

1st you have to fire mike brown.hope that makes him happier.then have a back and fourth in the media with him.let him shop himself around to every team and their mother..and then hope your the one he comes crawling too.

Doesn't he have enough Bird Years for you to go over the cap to resign him?

yes you should be able to give him a max 5 yr deal.. The lakers are over the soft cap but they shouldn't be over the hard cap unless you picked up some ppl

Re: Lakers association how to resign Dwight Howard?

Resign him during the first season with a contract extension? You can't. You would have to trade multiple guys like Pau/Nash/Metta and more to teams with cap space and not get much in return to get under the hard cap enough to resign Dwight in the first season. You need to wait till the offseason to resign him.

You just need to make sure you are going to have at least 18 or so million under the hard cap when he becomes a free agent. Not sure if you will by default especially if you pick up the options on Hill and Meeks. To free up some money you may want to move Blake and Duhon who have 2 years left. If they are moved for expirings then that frees up close to 8 million in space under the hard cap. You can also just keep everyone and wait till the offseason and if you don't have enough under the hard cap then make trades before you try to re-sign Dwight. As long as you have enough money under the hard cap to offer Dwight the max he should always re-sign as long as his morale is high which it should be if you gave him starters minutes.
