Why do you want to see more penalties?

Why?

I am starting to see a madden revolution. DarrenP pointed out some enlightening news on the penalty sliders and how they contribute to Gameplay advantages and disadvantages. Conversely, I have not seen anyone but Quan apply his theories. I now see Cabbage praising Quan's sliders for how they contributed to blocked field goals and other new flashes of inspiration.

In reality, a coach does not want to see his team get more penalties. The Raiders coach made it his goal to install a new sense of discipline in his squad as they were one of the top penalty takers last year.

Ask yourselves, how often do you see each penalty occur?

In NCAA12, I finally noticed their penalty sliders are referred to as Percentages. What percent of time do you see the kick/catch interference calls? This slider alone will cause your defense players pursuit ratings to come alive if you lower the slider.

Why do YOU want to see more penalties?

Straight forward question but I think the better question is, How are penalties generated?

I do believe there is a revolution alive and new answers will arrive with new questions and new debates.

Re: Why do you want to see more penalties?

I want to see penalties because they actually occur in games.

You usually have 3-5 holding penalties per team each game.
You usually have 1-2 DPI per game
You have numerous illegal blocks per game per team.
You usually have 1-2 clipping penalties per game.
You have 1-3 false starts per game
You have 1-3 off sides per game.
You have maybe 1-2 facemask penalties per game.

They occur. The percentage? that's not quantifiable. Depends on A) the players involved, their ratings, the assignments, etc.

Yes, a coach doesn't want to see penalties, but the reality is they happen. Majority of the penalties aren't lack of discipline, but in trying to make a play.

We all want a real game feel. We want the offense to play like their real-life counterparts. WE want the defense to play like their counterparts. We want Ryan Tannehill to play like Ryan Tannehill and not like Aaron Rodgers. We want mid-tier players to play like mid-tier players, and elite players to be elite.

Re: Why do you want to see more penalties?

Though I would prefer to have my apple pie I know with this edition I have to sacrifice a little flavor. It really sucks because i enjoy penalties being called as it can play a very significant role in a game. My Vikings basically owned the Lions in the first half because of 2 huge pass interference calls and to not see this in Madden this year blows big time.

I am glad however that I came across that penalty thread and how it affects the game because up until that point my frustration with this game almost had me at a point where I was actually going to trade this thing in for NBA 2k13. I will say though that if Madden 14 doesn't fix issues such as these I will not be purchasing the game as I am tired of tweaking sliders with this year being the most I've ever done with any set. Ridiculous...smh

Re: Why do you want to see more penalties?

It's about creating a realistic game of football. Of course we don't want penalties, but the reality is that even the most disciplined teams are penalized. For me personally it is about stats. There is nothing more annoying to me then to go to the season stats list, look at the penalties, and realize that I have had 60 less penalties called on me the any other team in the league. It just isn't realistic. As far as the penalty sliders effecting gameplay is concerned, I don;t know for sure as I didnt test that theory. penalties are one of the first things i figure out when developing sliders. getting things like penalties, plays per game, and special teams stuff out of the way first makes it alot easier to start working on the rest of the sliders. Just set your penalty sliders first, and the you wont have to worry about them screwing up the rest of your sliders.

http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/penalties-per-game

The average penalties per game per team is 6. This is to date and also the average for the 2011 season.

Out of those 6 penalties per game per team, the low is 3.5 year to date for ATL (5.6 in 2011) and the high is 9.3 for Pittsburgh (last year the average was the same).

The average is six..

If we change the observation to penalties per play for both ATL and PITT the average changes to .03 and .08 respectively.

In a virtual game of Football, how would you factor these results into your game if you wanted to achieve that simulation penalty effect?

The average player?

How does the average player play the game? If we go off-sides for a second, how does the average opponent stop a prolific player? The way a user plays a game is not the way a GM, Coach or Player plays the game, so how can you truly simulate all that goes on on the field to a total of averages?

Unless I just dont understand what you are saying, I believe what you are asking isnt possible. Madden would need a discipline slider for each individual player, and then maybe even a overall discipline slider for your franchise. You will never be able to factor in a coach's ability to coach, or a players ability to listen. If you want your team to be the most disciplined (non-penalized) team in the league, simply leave the settings at default and your done. Same thing goes for the other way around. If you want your team to be the least disciplined, a lot of the penalty sliders have a specific number that if you set it above that number, it will be called a lot. This is one of many parts of football the madden simply cannot simulate, no matter what you try.
