Draft picks ratings?

Hi

If the overall rating of a player you've just drafted comes out in the 60s when you look at them in rookie signings are they a guaranteed bust and had I might as well just treat them as a third string player?

What do the rest of you do with draft picks in the 60s?

Re: Draft picks ratings?

There are definitely no guaranteedbusts because there is no longer a visible potential rating. You have to decide yourself whether you're going to invest the time, money, and roster spot on seeing how far this player develops.

Pretty interesting eh?

If overall really means that much to you scout awareness. The higher the awareness the higher overall rating off the bat.

Yeah, love the sound of that. Will try them out and see how they perform.

I'll check out the awareness rating now.

NOT (like most everything else in life) true.

I've missed out on players that were in the 80s OVR with 40 AWR and have drafted 60s and 70s with 80s AWR. I know, because I used to draft on AWR BUT remember, OVRs are tied to your player schemes also.

In general though, a high awareness does usually translate to the player "getting it" more often than not which makes them a better player even if they do not necessarily have the tools. A 99 Spd does you no good if the player has no idea which direction/angle to run. Where an 80 speed player just might find himself in the right place more often than not

I have abandoned my scouting AWR though because I was missing out on too many good players, and AWR is a trait that grows in the NFL as they learn the game. Much easier to change a player's awareness of the game than their speed or natural abilities.

Re: Draft picks ratings?

Actually, scouting awr has helped me pick up many gems and I havent felt like im missing out much. Initially, I only scout awr for all the players in a position of need. A B awr means I automatically start looking at important ratings for the position. A C awr also warrants some looking into, as I have come across some players with mid 80 overalls with C awr. Anything lower than that though and I have been hard-pressed to find any great players. D and F awareness sometimes lead to 70 overalls. Awareness doesn't mean much when actually playing the games, as how you play is really dependent on you awareness (maybe it does affect the non-user players on the team). But I think awareness is important for simming (especially to me, as I sim a lot).

I remember seeing a qb named pharoah phillips with 90+ speed, 95 thp, and 80+ acc attributes but he had a killer F overall (I already had a qb though). He came out with a 74 or 75 overall. If he has superstar development, he may be worth taking.

I can't disagree with you here as I also am a simmer, rather than a player, but AWR is the easiest attribute to raise, and even in a sim, is the one attribute per position that you have the most leniency on because everyone's awareness is lower when they first join the NFL and grows per year, so for scouting purposes it is not as important as it is when playing.

I guess what I'm saying is that it is the most coachable, so it is not as crucial to be high during the draft. I did my first two years scouting AWR first, also only checking out C+ players further on, last year I scouted on most important attribute per position and ended up having a better list than when I did scouting AWR first because although, true, like you said, high awareness usually means higher overall, it does not usually mean a better player for scheme. If you scout AWR first, you may be getting an average higher overall player, but you will be missing out on the superstar players for your scheme. In other words, you will get the safer overall picks scouting awareness, but you will miss out on a lot of superstar specialists.

P.S. Also remember AWR is more important generally for Defensive players than it is for Offensive players. Really the only position on O where AWR is even a concern is FB. OL some but not as much as FB
