Cannot crack the lineup

This is really bothering me. I started a CCM as a RB and high draft pick. In the first preseason, my guy had 150-250 yards rushing per game while not even playing the whole game. Did not get a single carry all regular season as I was somehow third on the depth chart, but I played every practice. Second preseason I had a repeat performance of the previous year, but again cannot crack the lineup in games. I get to return a few kicks, but that's it.

I've been progressing the player continuously, but not much of a difference is made in the ratings. My guy started out as a 70 and is now a 72. I have a feeling the XP would come in a lot more if I was getting game action.

Anyone else with this problem have any tips?

Only thing I can say is to restart on a team that has no choice but to start you.

You don't get enough experience through practice ONLY to level fast enough to crack the lineup in a couple years. It will take awhile for sure.

Another thing is if you are a top pick and you aren't high rated it looks like the type of RB you are is wrong for the system. If you went somewhere else your overall might be in the 80s because of all the schemes.

Yep, my QB, although I was a low draft pick sat behind Jay Cutler for my first two seasons. My rating was an 80 also, but since Cutler is an 88 there was no way I was going to unseat him. After the second season, even though I had one year left on my contract, I demanded my release. I had 17 offers to choose from and I chose the Cardinals because I knew I would start, and they have that one guy, Larry something. Through 2 weeks good 'ole Larry and are lighting it up. Gonna try and rewrite some record books before he retires.

So what I am saying is demand your release in the offseason and go somewhere where you're going to start.

The mention of the system you're playing in is a great point. You have to look and see what system fits you the best (based off of the type of player you are) and then try to play for a team like that.

Request a release, and choose from a team that really wants your services and will give you a chance to start.

It seems that many are having trouble as players. This is my take on this. If you have a low draft player, you should not expect to start as 1st string player. You do need to earn your place in the roster. The reality is that there are only so many players in the NFL that actually accomplish this. Therefore I do think that this is represented realistically. I feel low draft players will have to play many seasons and games to accomplish a feat like that.

However, one issue is when a player is given the chance to actually play and if does well, the CPU should somewhat prioritize the player and give him more chances. I think, no matter how well you do if you get a chance to play, the CPU goes back to the numbers when deciding on the Roster, which is not how it works in real life.

I suppose a real life example would be Aaron Rodgers, as he was seen as a QB that would be stuck behind Farve, but look where he is today. That being said, in order to represent this realistically these opportunities should be limited and tied to the circumstances (without being predetermined of course, as it would take the fun factor down).

I think overall people do not seem to realize the fact that Madden 13 has lot more complex structure that is aimed to capture a realistic football experience compared to any other past Madden games. I think the low draft player option is there to create that realism and challenges for the gamer.

Anyhow, just my 2 cents.

I actually like the way it's handled. I was a low draft pick in my first 2 seasons, there should be no reason I unseat an all pro QB that hasn't gone down to injury. I just got bored only doing practices, so I demanded my release to see if there was anywhere else I'd like to play. Now if they had the drills from back in the day. I probably wouldn't have gotten as bored as I did being a back up for a few years.

Even a high draft pick RB has a hard time starting on day one.

I ended up starting a Power RB on a team that utilizes the power run, namely Panthers. I start from day one, as the Power RB comes out as a 90 ovr in the power run system.

I have not tested if other RB types start higher rated depending on system, but so far I had no luck getting above 79 OVR as a balanced RB in limited testing. I don't know if a speed, one-cut or recieving RB would rate higher in other systems.

It can easily be tested tho: Create the RB type (fx speed), pick a team with X system and jump to the attribute page. Already prior to final creation, it will list the OVR. Add yours to the list below.
