Let's Hash out Schemes and Player types

There seems to be much confusion about this, well maybe only from me, but I need help regardless.

Here is what confuses me.

Under Scheme in CCM as a coach you can swith to different player types. Now, is it true that whatever you switch that too become what fits into your scheme? In a sense, you make your own custom scheme?

If this isn't true then please explain what the point of this screen is.

Also, how do you tell what type of player one is? Their ideal system is clear enough but they type I can't figure out for my players or scouted players. This would be greatly appreciated.

We can start there and I am guessing those who know will help others.

For scouting players to find their type you have to scout player type over to left. I think it costs 1000 points.

For players already on you team you have to go to roster and hit A on xbox or x on ps3 and bring up the player card. The type is then in the upper left.

All setting your schemes does is make the game adjust players overall ratings reflect what their overall would be in your system. Elite players will reflect high overalls in any system but specialized players overalls will swing wildly. For example, Revis will have a high overall no matter what you set for scheme but Janoris Jenkins may be an 80 overall if you pick man cover scheme and a 70 if you pick zone cover scheme.

On your team scheme the cpu will label your scheme as best it can based on the general makeup of your roster so it will give you a good indication of how well you are staffing your team based on what you want to run. My Bengal ccm for example I have obviously staffed my d well because the cpu says I have a hybrid front d, which is what I have tried to replicate, but have a ways to go on offense as it says I run a spread offense when I am trying to run a power/zone running offense.

Schemes don't really matter. At least not in the way I think EA wanted them to. The positional ratings aren't affected, yet the OVR and production ratings are.

The OVR rating is mainly used for CPU Trading AI, not the players performance.

It works fine. The players overall rating changes depending on what scheme you want to run, because setting the player type weights certain ratings more than others. IF you set each position style to truly reflect how you will actually use that player in a game situation then the overall should give you some indication of how that player will perform for you. If, however, you set the position style to an idillic setting and then use that player in another way during game situations then the adjustments of overall give you no assistance.

Also, it is very important to make sure that you are paying attention to what ratings are rated by which style. For example, I may think that I want a "possession" receiver, but my definition of that type of player might differ from what madden ratings the game thinks is more important for that player. In some cases, setting the player style to something other than what you perceive as the type of player that you want might actually help you more in terms of game functionality.

This feature is pretty freaking awesome and it's about time that madden realized that a player will not perform the same regardless of what scheme he is in and that therefore player overall should not be a constant.

He should have said "You will see Kurt Warner come out of retirement. That's about it."

So when I go the scheme screen with all the positions listed. I changed WR1 to Possession for example, what that means is that the ideal 1st WR in my system is a now Possession regardless of what scheme I picked when I started CCM?

Also, why do the stars never change no matter what I change the position to?

Correct. So you can run a vertical offense playbook with possession receivers if you want. The overall shownto you will be in respect to the possession receiver scheme. Ratings are independent of the playbook you choose to run.

Something thus far unmentioned is that I'm pretty sure I recall Looman on one of the playbook videos saying that if a player matches your scheme, his xp gain increases.

Unfortunately I think it would take some complicated testing to confirm if this is true or even if it's worthwhile.
