I NEED HELP!

Alright, so I've always seen myself as a good Madden player. I play good D, good running O, but my passing game is shotty as hell, because I don't know how to read defenses for the life of me. Is anyone that considers themselves a good/great passer in Madden willing to help me learn how to read defenses and just become a better passer in general? I could also help you in another area if need be. Thanks in advance.

Re: I NEED HELP!

Easy first downs:

If the corners are playing off your WR then the curl will be open consistently.
Curl flats may not look like a sexy play but it is very effective. It is a good high/low read. Usually such plays are the same on either side (i.e. both outside WRs run a curl, the slot and/or TE runs to the flat). Generally I don't like this so on one side I hot route to provide myself with a plan b.

I usually run curl flat from singleback doubles flex (any 3 WR, 1 TE set except for trips should work). I leave one TE or slot alone and check the other to run a slant. On the outside I check the WR to run either a deep out or a go route. I use the Ravens so this is usually Torrey Smith. With Rice I see what the defense is showing and adjust from that. If they show blitz I leave him to protect unless it is an overload blitz then I send him on a swing to that side.

After the D adjusts to that I bring out the smash play to test them vertically. Boldin runs a quick curl, slot runs a corner, TE runs a seam. Through either the formation or motion I have all three of those on the same side of the field. The other side I vary depending on what the defense is showing.

Hope that helps

Re: I NEED HELP!

I got you man, thanks. I'm just trying to get better at reading defenses in general, I've gotten a bit better by watching the LB's in particular.

Yeah watching the LBs and safeties is very important. First thing I always do is check the position of the safeties.

Give this site a read. The writer is a former NFL CB and he basically breaks down the x's and o's. It is written from the defense's perspective but it may give you an idea of how to attack a defense.

Re: I NEED HELP!

I'm not the best as I just started passing this year. I've been using coach mode and automatic pass since like Madden 09.

I've picked up on a few things. If the defense is running nickel 'cause you're in a 3-4 WR set, take a slot reciever and pull down on the right stick. Both LBs are guarding the HB and TE/other WR so if he gets a good release off the defender, he'll be wide open. If they're running Dime are LBs are on the LOS, same will work with the TE. Could even do an in route for extra yards.

Also, hitch routes are good for big TEs.

My main issue is whenever my recievers are tightly covered, I tend to throw picks instead of throw it away or take a sack.

I'm still trying to go through my recievers than just starting down my TE and slot guy, but I'm slowly getting better. I still have low completion % but no more 5INts a game.

When you say tightly covered do you mean press man or that your first and second read is not there?

I'm assuming you use the Saints (call it a hunch) so Graham is your best friend. Against man defense send him on a corner route. No way will a LB be able to keep up with him and if you send a WR on a fly route they should attract the safety so your TE will be one on one. Time the throw just as he makes his cut and you will see a good 5 yards of separation.

I mean like they're not open. And I've been using the Jags and Browns. I'm not starting my Saints CCM until I see that they fix the sim stats and scores issue.

What's a good TE to get for the Browns? I'm using lombardi and his playbook is full of RE routes with 1 or 2 WR.
