Baserunner's stumbling on steals...

This has happened to me a handful of times... twice in the past couple of games...
Does this happen for any particular reason? or is it at random?
Also, is it only during steals or other base running situations too?

IRL, I can remember Braun's infamous stumble on his way home for an in-the-parker only to be out, and Ben Revere's stumble going into third base for a triple(pretty awesome tumble)...

Re: Baserunner's stumbling on steals...

I haven't seen it happen very often, but the only times I've seen a steal attempt where the player stumbles while stealing is from players with less than about 70 BR skill.
Now either the BR skill has something to do with it, or that combined with fatigue, but I don't have any kind of scientic test results to compare it to, just the observations that I've made.

Re: Baserunner's stumbling on steals...

Could be anything, really.

Could be random. Could be that it happens when you swing when you shouldn't, or don't swing when you should. Could be tied to base-running ability. Could be a combination of several things.

Honestly, if it's not happening too often (which it doesn't) what difference does it make? (No offense.)

I came to the conclusion that it was if you held down the stick too long to steal... but then again maybe it's just random lol

In a related note:

Has anyone else had the "Flintstone effect"? Austin Jackson seems to run in place for a second and then take off. It's cost me many an inning ending out.

Just wondering...

Re: Baserunner's stumbling on steals...

I flat out DON'T like this animation at all. I feel it's unnecessary as it makes base stealing harder than it already is, which is pretty hard with the way catchers snap up from the crouch and fire a strike to second in less than a blink of the eye. And playing thru a couple hundred games, I've gathered that it's pretty much randomized to happen to any baserunner no matter the weather, BR ability/aggressiveness or how well the runner's lead is, though I've had it happen more when rallying from behind late in the game. It also only happens when stealing 2nd but never 3rd or home.

It's one of those things that the devs place in the game to emulate certain quirky, bizarre moments in baseball, i.e. the comebackers off the pitcher, while although cool winds up being overdone at times. It needs better tuning IMO to come off realistically, so that it targets the poorer baserunners more than the capable ones.
