2K should modding NBA 2K much easier

I got the Ultimate Base Roster, Sweat Mod, Muscle/Shadow/Whatever mod on. Amazing.

If 2K'd let the modding community make mods easier...wouldn't it be much better?

Sports games are different from normal games in that there's one every year (my brother plays Skyrim and there's like a billion mods, some of which are amazing, apparently).

Every year, VladZolaJr has to re-create reditor, which many rosters (including my new favorite, UBR) are based on. Every year it's a step back.

If 2K'd make their game much more friendly to modders, amazing modders like VladZolaJr can continue to improve other areas of the game and the artists can get Monta Ellis with realistic tattoos and realistic eyelashes in the game by November...and more.

Sure, some parts of the game you wouldn't want the competition knowing about...but the way rosters work? Speeding up animations and sweat and other aesthetics related items (michaelvlutz49)?

The modding community could be a real edge against Live games and instead of destroying the efforts every year, allowing the community to build on the mods...Live would have a hard time catching up.

Re: 2K should modding NBA 2K much easier

I see the future of all video games heading in the direction of modding. Giving people the option to mod games in an easier and less time-consuming way would really extend play time and value.

I don't think many companies realize that if they give their customers more customizable options (such as modding), their game will sell better.

On the PC version of the game you can mod it. But the game would sell more copies if you had more modding options on the console version

Re: 2K should modding NBA 2K much easier

Right now, 2K probably feels like they are the only ones putting any basketball game on PC, so I doubt they will make a genuine effort to make modders jobs easier. Kind of a "you're lucky we gave you a game at all" type philosophy.

Also, making it easier to mod is a double-edged sword. Yes, initial sales will increase. However, you also run the risk of having a community of gamers that see no reason to buy the next version. Remember, sports games are on a yearly cycle, so they want to make sure you are in the store same time next year to buy the newest version. However, a game like Skyrim, you're lucky if you see a new Elder Scrolls game in the next 5 years, so the devs probably put a little more effort into making it easier for users to generate content for it.

I wouldn't hold my breath for modding to come to consoles. Consoles are closed systems, and the makers (MS, Sony, Nintendo) don't want you messing around with user generated content. Because, guess who gets the calls when some user uploads a mod that causes your system to crash? Most likely, the manufacturer of the console will get it. They'd rather not deal with that (and I can't say I blame them). So, only developer supplied content/fixes will fly on consoles, and I don't see that changing anytime soon, if ever.

I disagree. It's not that it's hard to mod the game, because you can mod everything. Also everyone know that PC games are WAY cheaper than the console counterpart. Especially with all of these pirates. Modding is pretty simple I don't think it needs to be easier. There are how ever gameplay mods that fixes many issues.
