Problem with Shotgun Option

Is anybody else having a problem with getting the QB to pitch the ball quick enough??

Every time I run the speed option from the Shotgun formation my QB will never pitch the ball unless he is has zero defenders around him. This makes running this play useless because the idea is to draw attention to the QB then pitch to the HB.

I can never get my pitch off in time and usually only gain 2-3 yds, whereas, if I would have got the pitchman the ball I would have gained 7-10.

I have practiced this over and over again but if there is a defender remotely close my QB swings his arm out for the pitch but doesn't let go of the ball.

Just wondering if anybody else is experiencing this.

I've had that happen to me too. The QB extends his arm but doesn't pitch. Can be annoying but I think the problem is that the pitch man gets too far away.

Pitch also comes from wrong hand. If you run speed option to the left, the QB will pitch with his right hand, not his left. I assume it's based on QB handedness.

So if you're not running at the proper angle it will not pitch.

2 things

1- what level are you playing it on? I had similar issues until i moved down to varsity. It seems EA's idea of difficulty is to make the game not work properly.

2- The timing for the pitch is a bit different as is the button press. I think if you dont PRESS the pitch button he wont actually pitch it. Also if he has too many people on him he wont pitch it.

I'm guessing it's a timing issue that should go away with practice. I run everything out of the SG and I'm a heavy option guy and I've had a lot of success with speed options. Sometimes they'll get blown up by a blitzing LB that gets to the QB before he can get going due to a bad presnap read on my part. But if my QB can get to the corner (which he usually can as long as I make a good presnap read) I'll make the defender commit to the QB and then pitch it to the HB with no issues.

Running it is a lot easier with Denard Robinson. Try running it with a 75-80 speed quarterback, it's much harder.

I have seen this a few times, but I do not believe that is a problem with the game. As in real life you need to keep pitch relation, as was mentioned above, if your lose that pitch relation with the pitch man you would not pitch that in real life. Additionally, yes you do need to read the defender to read pitch or keep, but if you are pressing pitch right when you are going to get and the QB holds onto it, that is more realistic then in years past when you could make a perfect pitch falling down. You have to be able to take care of the ball to make the pitch.
