Unrealistic sim stats

Has anyone had an issue where, if you sim thru a season your top rated guys finish with horrible stats but then your guys with bad ratings finish with respectable stats? I've done this 3 times now and every time Castro (even after boosting his contact ratings) has finished with an average in the .240's or lower. That's just one example of course but it's generally the trend across the board all 3 times. Seems to go for pitchers too. Dempster & Garza have ERA's in the 5-6 range while Chris Volstad is down around 2.50 (even finished below 2 in one season). What gives?

Re: Unrealistic sim stats

It's not that the sim stats are poorly tied to ratings. *On average,* you will get realistic results. The key of course is the word "average"...

Say Contact = 90 corresponds to .300 hitter. That's the average batting average (how confusing) you'd expect from him *over a long run.* Due to the year-to-year variance in performance, however, he might hit .250 one year while hitting .350 the next. The average for the two years is of course .300, where you expect (for the same number of at bats of course).

I'm one of those who do extensive testing on this type of thing, and I observe this to be the case... the sim stats are mostly realistic *on average.* However, I'd agree if you say the year-to-year variance appears larger than what we'd expect from more consistent MLB players. That's not a scientific statement since I haven't explicitly tested this, but I do see a player hitting .250 one year but .350 next. That type of performance fluctuation in sim stats is common in this game.

Re: Unrealistic sim stats

Yup, I am at the all star break in my season and here are Joe Nathan's stats that have been simmed:

1-0, 30 IP, 27 SV, 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP.

Meanwhile, Stephen Strasburg:

4-6, 5.25 ERA

Mike Leake: 11-1, 3.06 ERA

Weird.

I really hope they do something to make them more consistent next year. I can see varying from .280 to .320 for a .300 hitter but .250 to .350 is a lil absurd.

Meh, I have a pitcher, I have thrown 4-5 no hitters with him, and he is almost #1 overall on the yankees in 2019 and has gone 20-5. The past two he has gone 11-11 and 13-7.

For some reason prince fielder always hits like 350 when he should be hitting 270ish

You realize that Prince Fielder has never batted below .271 in his entire career, right?
