Coaching career of Frank Beaule

Miami Herald – July 20th 2012

It’s been two weeks since Mario Cristobal took everyone by surprise and resigned from the Head Coach Job at Florida International University. Cristobal departure for personal reasons took Pete Garcia, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics by surprise. A search was on for a new Head Coach at FIU.

This morning in a press conference, Garcia shocked everyone’s in attendance by announcing that they went off the board and North of the border with their new HC. The University introduced Frank Beaule, a 37 years-old guy native of Quebec City.

Beaule worked with most of the best people in the “Belle Province” in the football department. First with Jacques Chapdelaine at the University Laval, and then Glen Constantin. He spent most of his time between the Rouge & Or in Quebec City and the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL as an advisor to personal director and recruiting team. In the last two years, he’s been working tightly with Jim Popp and Mark Trestman.

« I know pretty well I’m not the guy all of you expected at this job. I’m not taking it against you. You don’t know me that much, I’m not from the region and to you, most of the place I worked we’re playing football of a type that it’s not comparable to what you see most Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Right now, the only think I’m expecting from you and people who follow the Panthers is to let me do my job and respect the way I work. If the results aren’t to your liking after a while, I promise you one thing, I won’t hide and don’t answer your questions. As of now, I’ve got work to do and a team to prepare for the next season. Thanks. »

It would be an understatement saying the new HC is no Rex Ryan. In fact, calm, poise and leadership are the main characteristic of the guy. Speaking with Popp after the new conference, it was interesting to hear him describe Beaule: “You tend to expect a boiling character, a storm beneath the guy since he’s French and usually, they are more loud-speaking people. Not with the guy. He’s dangerous because he listen closely, he learns from people and he gets the most out of them. You might not be sold right now with him, but in few years, you won’t want him to leave for the big programs. »

With everything settle now, the job is starting before the Panthers kick-off their season against the Blue Devils on Sept. 1st.
