Association Mode Story Line Idea: All In Approach: The Houston Rockets Association

Title: All In Approach: The Houston Rockets Association Story Line

Intro: You have been assigned the task of taking over the Houston Rockets and getting them to NBA Title contenders in a time frame of 5 years. We have set a side multiple goals for you that we expect you will follow in helping our orginization grow and become one of the top teams in the West. As you might have seen on the news and through the media we are really pushing for a big man right now. And that doesn't change for you. Our top prospect obviously being Dwight Howard but we would be happy with any quality big man really... As the owner I want to re-create the days of when we had success and those days were with a Hall of Fame Big man. So lets role the dice and see what we can get. I am more then willing to go all in and throw everything we have at a team in order to get a big man that can be a force for us and the core of our orginization that we can then build around. As you know we have a huge market here in Houston and should be able to gain an edge in free agency and be an attractive destination for the top FA's. So lets not focus on working through the draft but rather through free agency and getting quality players that are already proven into our organization. So if you are ready and don't have any questions for me lets get started. We have laid out here for you a list of goals and expectations that we have for you over the next 5 years. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Roster Rules: Pre-Season 1

1) You can trade away any number of picks as you feel necessary.
2) You can trade away any player on the current Houston Rocket roster, no player is excluded from the trading block.
3) You can make as many trades as you feel necessary before your first game.
4) After the first game you can only trade 2 other players the night of the trade deadline, we need to build our team chemistry.

Roster Tasks: Pre-Season 1

*These tasks need to be completed before your first game. Get a roster that you like because you will only be allowed to trade 2 of your players if necessary, on the night of the trade deadline.

1) Trade for one of the Top 5 Big Men (PF or C) to build our team around. You must be willing to trade anything and everything to get one of these dominant big men. This includes anyone of these guys: Kevin Love, Josh Smith, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard, or Andrew Bynum. (Not all of these trades will be possible/ found in Trade Finder)
2) To keep your big man happy you need to trade for a side kick that is a 80 ovr or better.
3) All Players other then your new big man, side kick, and two other players of your choice need to be under the age of 26.
4) Find an underrated rookie and start him at any position on the court.

Team Goals: Season 1

1) Develope Your Bigman and Make Him the Core Piece of Your Franchise
2) Finish Season over .500
3) Make Playoffs First Year No Matter What Seed
4) Play a Rookie 30+ Min Per Game
5) Win Over 25 of Your Home Games
6) Have 2 Players Named to The All Star Game

Individual Goals: Season 1
(Your Big Man)
1) Average Over 15 PPG (Points Per Game)
2) Average Over 8 RPG (Rebounds Per Game)
3) Make the All-Star Team
4) Named to One of The All-NBA Teams

Roster Rules: Off-Seasons 2-5

1) You can sign any type of Free-Agent no age limit or rating limit (Who knows if you play the salary cap game right you might even be able to sign Chris Paul)
2) You can trade anyone except for your Big Man the night of the Draft in order to get a young player through the Draft.
3) Only Allowed to trade max of 2 players in the off-season.

Roster Rules: Seasons 2-5

1) Only allowed to trade 2 players every year.
2) Never allowed to trade away your Big Man (If it comes down to it you must watch him walk in free agency.)
3) After season 2 you are not allowed to trade any 1st rd picks for any player over a 75 rating. Even if the pick is not the primary trade asset involved. The pick is not allowed to be involved at all in any trade dealing with someone above the rating of 75.
4) No age restrictions on the roster after the first season.

Team Goals: Seasons 2-5

1) You need to put a championship contender together within the first 5 years.
2) Win 1 NBA Title
3) With the shift of conference powers shifting towards the East you need to win at least 2 Western Conference Titles.
4) Have 3 All-Stars on Roster at one time
5) Have 2 90+ Rated Players in Starting Line Up
6) Have 2 more players in starting line up Rated 80+
7) End the Season with the Best Record in the Conference
8) Find a PG that can tag team with your Big Man and make him better.

Individual Goals: Season 2-5

(Your Big Man)

3) Average 10+ RPG
4) All-Star Regular
5) Named Defensive Player of the Year
6) Top 5 on MVP Ballot

Association Settings: All Seasons

1) If you are not playing on Hall of Fame you must increase the Difficulty during playoffs to Hall of Fame.
2) If not playing on Hall of Fame mode, every 2 years you must increase the difficulty level.
3) I play 82 game seasons and this was written for 82 game seasons, if you sim you must play 1 game for every 4 games you sim.
4) This was also written under the guidelines of 10 min quarters and 12 min simulated quarters.
5) Trade Override: Off
6) Team Chemistry: On
7) Player Roles: On (Must have 5 Starters, 1 Sixth Man, 2 Role Players and the rest must be set to Bench Warmers)
8) Progressive Fatigue and Injuries: On
9) All of my Story Lines were created using the Official 2k12 Roster Update, the latest and last one available.

Thanks for checking this story line out for Association Mode in NBA 2k12. I am hoping to create one of these for each team in NBA 2k12 and then to try and create some other possible story lines in association mode in order to make this mode a bit more challenging and fun to play. If you have any comments or questions please leave a response for me. Also if you try this out please give us some updates on the changes and moves that you make. Hope you have fun with this and enjoyed it.

Re: Association Mode Story Line Idea: All In Approach: The Houston Rockets

So I have tested it out and have finally put together my Houston Rocket Roster with all of the rules and expectations. This is what I came up with let me know what you guys think of the roster I have put together given the circumstances and conditions. Think you can assemble a better roster before your fist game? Prove it and do it and then post on here what you came up with.

Starting Lineup:

PG: Jimmer Fredette (63 ovr) (The underrated rookie that I will play 30+ min/gm)
SG: Shannon Brown (72 ovr) (Athlete, Runs Court, Decent Shooter, Perimeter D)
SF: Wilson Chandler (80 ovr) (Sidekick Player, Slasher, Athletic, Shooter)
PF: Luis Scola (77 ovr) (Rebound Machine, Underrated Offensive Game)
C: Andrew Bynum (87 ovr) (Star Big Man, Strong, Overall Center)

Back Ups:

PG: Andrew Goudelock (59 ovr) (Strong, Good Size, Shooter)
SG: Rudy Fernandez (65 ovr) (Athletic/Awkward)
SF: Austin Daye (59 ovr) (Lengthy, Shooter, Creates Mismatch)
PF: Tiago Splitter (62 ovr) (Underrated Player Ovr)
C: Samuel Dalembert (71 ovr) (Shot Blocker, Defensive Player, Rebounds)

SG: Christian Eyenga (58 ovr)
SF: Tyler Honeycutt (65 ovr)
C: Timofey Mozgov (57 ovr)

So as you can see I still have a lot of work that I need to do in the future and need to develop some players. But mainly I will need to strike gold in Free Agency. So leave me some feedback on what you like and what you would change, and let me know if you try this and what you come up with!

This is cool; I love stuff like this!

With your team it may be difficult to strike gold in free agency. The combination of Bynum, Scola, Chandler, and Dalembert eats up too much salary cap to sign anyone other than a mid-level exception player.

You may have to trade Scola and Dalembert at the deadline (using your two-player trade rule at the deadline), or trade Scola and decline the team option on Dalembert at the end of the season.

A three-team deadline deal involving Scola and Dalembert for Antawn Jamison (Cavs) and a big like Byron Mullins (Bobcats) would be ideal. Jamison will have about $15 million coming off the books at the end of the season and you can re-sign him for cheap at about $2-3 million because of his age. He also gives you a nice stretch 4 to play alongside Bynum. Mullens gives you a nice young big to develop behind Bynum (in addition to Mozgov) and he's cheap as he'll cost under $2 million for next season as well.

Re: Association Mode Story Line Idea: All In Approach: The Houston Rockets Associatio

So I have made a minor change to the rules. Instead of playing 2 games for every 1 game simulated it will be that you need to play 1 out of every 5 games.. This will help to see how great of a manager you can be. I am testing it out right now and will give updates and hopefully another team story line here in the near future.

Tight.. ya I will try to work on a Clippers one here in the next little while. As for Cap Space I currently have just over 2 million open this year but next year am projected to have almost 16 million. In order to try for Chris Paul I am probably going to need to not resign Samuel Dalembert and I will need to some how get Scolas contract off the books. Problem is I really like playing with the two of them. I will post a screen shot of the cap space and player contracts.

Some really good ideas and thanks for the heads up. I am going to have to make some tough decisions and see where this thing takes me. At the same time I need to come up with a new story line for another organization. Any ideas of teams you would like to see?
