The Best Dugout Food In Baseball: The 2012 Boston Red Sox

Taken from the Official Facebook Page of the Boston Red Sox this morning:

The Red Sox regret to announce that Ben Cherington has resigned from his position as General Manager of the team with immediate effect for personal reasons. We would like to thank Mr. Cherington for the hard work and long hours he has dedicated to this organization, and wish him well in the future.

As of right now, we are deep into negotiations with a former Red Sox player to take over the vacant GM position. We hope to make an announcement within the next 24 hours. Go Sox.

Red Sox Hire Schilling As GM

Schilling should bring plenty of fire to the front office

Boston (AP)- The Boston Red Sox today announced that former star pitcher Curt Schilling will be returning to the organization as the team's new general manager. Schilling's place in Red Sox history will forever be sealed with his bloody sock incident in 2004. While he had a lot of success in Boston, he also tends to speak his mind, often alienating fans and teammates.

"I'm looking forward to returning to this organization," said Schilling to reporters outside of Fenway Park. "I had a great time here, and have a lot of memories. That being said, what happened with this team last year was a disgrace. We've got a lot of talented players here, but I'm not afraid to get rid of anyone who does not play with the same passion and commitment I had when I was here."

Schilling was good friends with former Sox manager Terry Francona, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to build the same sort of relationship with new manager Bobby Valentine. The Red Sox need some sort of stability and need to rebuild their relationship with some of the fans. With Schilling making the moves in the front office, it's likely that any behavioral issues may result in players being moved and the team going in a new direction.

"I want to make the same kind of mark as GM that I did here as a player," Schilling added. "I know we're going to have a lot of success, and I look forward to the players playing at the level I know they're capable of."

Well it's nearly Opening Day, and I have to admit I'm pretty damn excited. Of course, I'd like to be the one taking the ball for the Sox, but that time has passed. Instead, we'll be giving it to Jon Lester. This kid's got a lot of talent, but I question his work ethic at times, and I'm not happy with his role in last season's controversy. I hope for his sake that he has a big year. Because if he shows the same kind of stuff and attitude that he had at the end of last season, then he might not make it through the season in Boston. Here's hoping for a big start from him on opening day, and for some offense against Justin Verlander.

I really liked the offseason trade for Andrew Bailey. I think he's going to have a big year in the closer's role. I'm thrilled that he's healthy for the start of the season, and I think he's got some good guys with him in that bullpen that can help seal games. On the other side of the ball, I am expecting a big season from Kevin Youkilis. I know a lot of the fans are clamoring for Will Middlebrooks to be given a chance, but Kevin has been here for a long time, and he's my 3rd baseman. I'm not saying performances can't change that, but he's going to be given every chance to hold onto that job. I'm also expecting a return to form for Carl Crawford. He had a tough year last year, but I like his attitude and style. I'm glad he recovered from his injury to make the opening day roster, as our lineup adds a whole other dimension with him in it.

Well, that's it for now. Time to get ready for the season to start. I'm flying with the team to Detroit tonight. Gonna be cold, but that's ok. Spring training lasts too long. Until next time, Go Sox!

Well we're heading to Fenway for the first time, so the season is really ready to begin now. I'll take a 3-3 road trip against tough teams like the Blue Jays and Tigers any day. After taking 2 of 3 in Detroit, it would have been nice to take the series in Toronto too, but that's a good team they've got, so I'm not too disappointed. One thing I am disappointed in is our starting pitching, though. Only Daniel Bard has looked sharp, and Lester is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 2 starts. Not exactly what we expect from our ace, especially after last September.

Toronto is going to be a tough team this year

On the bright side, some of our players are really stepping up on offense. Big Papi has been showing he's still got it. He has 4 home runs already, including 3 in the last 2 games. Keep that up, buddy, and we'll just see about getting you an extension to keep you around for a while. Jacoby Ellsbury has been setting the tone in the leadoff spot, and has 6 RBIs, which is great. Guys like Saltalamacchia and Aviles are off to great starts as well, which has been a pleasant surprise. I'd like to see Pedroia get that average above the mendoza line, but it's still early, he'll get it done. And our bullpen has been fantastic so far, Padilla is the only guy that's given up a run.

Ortiz looks like he's on a mission this year

Like I said at the top, it's on to Fenway now. We play Tampa, then Texas, and then the Yankees. For better or worse, we're going to know a lot about what our team is capable of after that stretch. I will touch base again after the Tampa Bay series. Until then, Go Sox!
