Oraeon's Statistics in sliders for NCAA13

Difficulty: Heisman (can't get CPU d to work this year on AA)
Speed threshold: 60 (Shortens speed gap between LB and WR to more real value)
Game speed: Normal
Quarter length: 9-11 minutes (Goal 130-150 plays total per game, about 65-70 per team; realistic plays per game not minutes is the ONLY way to get realistic statistics; I use 10)

Slider: Human/CPU
QB accuracy: 15/15 (some overthrown deep balls, EA please have separate slider)
Pass blocking: 70/70 (stops DT sacks, as opposes power move)
WR catching: 45/45 (goal 3-4 drops per game for an A/B team)
RB ability: 50/50
Run blocking: 50/50 (pancakes fixed at 55 but unbalanced)
Pass coverage: 50/100 (Goal 3-4 deflections per game; setting higher for human leads to coverage sacks)
Pass rush: 70/70 (Makes DE get most sacks not DT, as boost finesse move)
Interceptions: 35/35 (goal of 1-2 per game)
Rush defense: 60/60 (45 or lower helps CPU option, debating lower rb and decrease this)
Tackling: 25/25 (goal of 3-6 broken tackles, NCAA avg 4.5/game)
FG power: 50/50
FG accuracy: 35/35 (CPU is not broken at <35 only human)
Punting power: 40/50 (goal about 40yd avg per game)
Punting accuracy: 50/50
Kickoff power: 50/50
Penalties:
Offside: 70
False start: 70
Holding: 54
Facemask:56
Off PI:100 (never seen one)
Def PI:100 (never seen one, substituting facemask)
KR/PR Interf: 100 (never seen one)
Clipping:100 (nerfed this year still haven't seen)
Intent grounding:100 (never seen)
Roughing passer: 54 (this gives one against the CPU per game; you will get called if you control pass rush--I control a LB, lower slider if you control pass rush to 60-70)
Roughing kicker: 100 (never seen)

Autosubs (Sub out/Sub in):
Not tested any suggestions warranted seems broken like every year for the past 5 years.

Coaching sliders: See below they are less powerful than last year but may help. Certainly effect simulation.

Re: Oraeon's Statistics in sliders for NCAA13

Bill Parcell NFL combine stats for players: Helps judge performance in this game.

Spoiler

The difference between LB average (4.68) and WR times (4.48) is 0.20 seconds and RB (4.49) is 0.19 seconds. I would expect college defenses to be relatively slower since that is the main change between pro and college for quarterbacks (defensive speed). So a college LB might be 5% worse that is 4.91 40 time which is a gap of 0.43 seconds.>>

NCAA stastics for every team: Remember teams schedules are padded so expect worse statistics against good teams. Later I may post good team stats which are available.

Re: Oraeon's Statistics in sliders for NCAA13

Speed threshold testing:

Finished testing threshold slider speed settings for WR and Defense (average for position at B class school):

WR NFL combine: 4.48 sec
OLB NFL combine: 4.65 sec
CB NFL combine: 4.47 sec
Safety NFL combine: 4.52 sec
Difference LB: 0.17 sec (0.2 with rounding)
Difference CB: -0.01 sec (0 with rounding)
Difference Safety: 0.04 sec

NCAA football on default threshold:
WR 4.4 sec
OLB 4.7 sec
CB 4.4 sec (close with 4.5 being real value)
Safety 4.5 sec
Difference LB : 0.3 sec
Difference CB: 0.0 sec
Difference Safety: 0.1 sec

It would appear on testing that compared to NFL players the gap between WR and defensive players is close but slightly favors WR. On testing WR vs LB (safety should middle out) with threshold at 60:

Threshold 60:
WR 4.4
LB 4.6
Difference 0.2 sec

I am currently happy with the results and will play with the slider on 60 currently.

Re: Oraeon's Statistics in sliders for NCAA13

Pass block/Pass rush testing:

I tested thes liders by running 20 test with 10 point increment slider changes for both Pass rush and Pass blocking. This year I also investigated who got the sacks and what the sliders actually do:

No blitz (5 defenders vs 4 rush) results:
Pass block slider: At the default setting the QB has about 6 seconds to throw this year, but ranges from only 2 seconds to throw at a setting of 0 with 100% of tackles by the DT, to 8 seconds to throw at 100 with 90% of tackles being by the DE. On observation the pass block is effecting the power move statistic with bull rushes and flattened lineman at higher settings. This allows the DT with their shorter travel distance to predominate sacks. I would avoid overly aggressively changing this slider if you want DE to get sacks. The stated 5 second interval goal is reached with a setting of 40-45.

Pass rush slider: Default the same as above. It ranged from 7 seconds at a setting of 0 with 40% of sacks by DE to 5 seconds with 70% of sacks by DE at a setting of 100. It appears to affect the swim move and allows both DT and DE to beat their men with this move but appears to make DE more effective. This slider should be increased to improve sack figures by DE. It allows them to more quickly get off blocks and reach the quarterback but has a less noticable impact on DT.

Effect on pancakes: Neither slider appeared to have any impact on offensive lineman pancakes which were very rare (this is still hosed).

Blitzing: Multiple defenders were sent and sliders were assessed.
Pass block slider: If set to 100 DE and blitzers got the sacks if set lower DT or Blitzers got the sack. It appears the blitzer is picked up and the DT is poorly blocked allowing more DT sacks as the PB slider is decreased.

Pass rush slider: If set to 100 most sacks were by the DT while at 0 most sacks were by the DE and blitzer. It would appear that the blitzers generally rely on the swim move. And if doing well the AI focuses on them and lets the DT rush pass.

This testing shows that the Pass block slider effects the bull rush by DT primarily and the Pass rush slider effects blitzers and DE. Unfortunately blitzing appears to fritz the AI logic of this game which then focuses on blocking the blitzer and allows the DT with their shorter route to reach the quarterback. What I observed was the OL watching the blitzer and not starting off blocking a DT. If the game was reprogrammed (if possible) to have the OL assigned to the blitzer hold up the DT and then focus on the blitzer as they neared the line at the last minute this would fix this issue (Heads up if anyone reads this from EA).

Recommendation: Decrease pass block sparingly as it results in very unrealistic DT sacks. I would recommend Pass block slider at 45 as currently pass rush is weak and raise Pass rush slider to 70 (will have in game testing next week).

Cautions: Since the pass rush is weaker this year compared to my testing last year I suspect their new passing AI is partially dependent on the quarterback having excessive time to throw. I suspect the nerfed the pass rush to allow the reciever icons time to open rather than properly programming the AI to use its short dumpoff recievers (something the AI has never done in this game). If pass rush is adjusted it may break the game and result in excessive sacks. Incidentally this nerf and bad dumpoff AI may partially explain why the CPU seems to be so focused on the deep ball and screens. I have noted the AI always takes a deep pass if given too much time in the pocket.

Re: Oraeon's Statistics in sliders for NCAA13

Run black/skill testing:Appears the same as last year so no changes though running appears more effective so will have to adjust after in game testing.

Run inside and outside testing:
Unfortunately testing was not possible for how much sliders change yardage here. The game seemed to have balanced inside and outside runs. It did seem to have a few too many TFL plays. However, by examining the extremes of the sliders I can now state what they do in general terms:

1) RB ability: Increases the RB speed and ability to break tackles and hit the correct hole. This slider improved yards per carry with some potential for big plays. It seemed to adjust yardage gained the best but at high levels the RB starts to look oddly fast. Probably my 1st choice adjustment for improving YPC.

2) Run blocking: Very interesting slider. It does almost nothing for YPC if you exclude touchdown runs. However, this slider has a huge impact on the quality of lineman blocking at the second level. At default you rarely see blockers getting to the second level consistently. At a slider of 100 they were consistently blocking downfield even to the level of the safety (a bit unrealistic though). Largely this downfield blocking is because they level their assigned defender and move on. Use this slider if you want to have imrpoved second level blocking and more big runs (i.e. TD runs). Be very cautious at 70 and above it resulted in >20% of runs being TD's; I personally wouldn't recommend using >60.

3) Run defense: Appears to effect the defenses ability to adjust to and correctly read the running play. This improves somewhat the YPC by allowing bigger gains but doesn't give up TD's like Run blocking sliders do. This would be my 2nd choice for imrpoving the run gain after RB ability and probably a tandem usage of both sliders would be best rather than overutilizing 1. Has its biggest impact on inside runs by improving YPC there

Re: Oraeon's Statistics in sliders for NCAA13

WR catching slider:
I tested this slider this year by running 15 WR routes, 15 TE routes, and 5 HB routes for 10 increment decreases in the setting. I found this slider less effective than in previous years. Even at 0 about 50% of passes are caught. Fortunately this year the disproportionate impact on TE and HB appears diminished and it primary effects downfield passing. I found that a value between 30-40 is likely the best value for the correct number of drops per game--in game testing required. I also would like to remind readers that a drop requires a reciever to drop a clearly catchable ball without being plowed by a defender (i.e. it must be the recievers fault). Will start testing in game at 35.

QB accuracy slider:
I tested this slider for an easy to complete out route. Though there are no statistics I watched NCAA last year and noted about 4-6 terrible passes per game on average. WIth QB accuracy at 50 there were 4 bad passes, at 40 5 bad passes, at 30 6 bad passes, 20 10 bad passes, at 10 9 bad passes. The best value is likely between 30-40. Will start at 35 for QB accuracy and adjust human and CPU from in game testing.

Coaching slider testing: I am a bit cautious if this works this year. However with it set to minimums and maximums I can tell some deference in play calling. To use this edit the coaching profile of the head coach offensive sliders. Here are the slider suggestions:
