What is a foul in this game?

I need help. What exactly is a foul in this game? To me it seems very inconsistent. I've seen players attacking the rim get clobbered and no whistle. Then you have other plays where it looks like there's ticky tack contact and they get a call.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

That is exactly how it is in the NBA in real life so if that is the case they have nailed down a realistic variety of foul calls in 2k!! Is this happening all the time? Are you using a default roster? Have you messed with sliders? SLiders can play a major factor on foul calls in 2k.

I think a lot of it has to do with percentages, rather than the triggered animation. I haven't done a conclusive study, but obviously the higher up the slider is for shooting foul the more likely you are to get a call.

Helping draw fouls:

Taking a dribble (isomotion) before shooting.
Pump fake/under and under
Drawing the second defender off their feet.
Receiving a pass before shooting.

Each of these you use increases foul likelihood in my candid opinion (again, I don't have any hard numbers). My understanding is that the more likely your shot was to go in, the more likely you will get a foul if the defender makes contact. (Good Shot Selection = More fouls)

I rarely get foul calls trying to go around a person one on one unless i have them conclusively beaten and they foul me from behind.

Foul: When the CPU needs 2 points to initiate an impossible 35-0 Run to start off the 2nd or 3rd quarter.

2K fouls are very inconsistent and they have foul animations that are bad.

The CPU will at times cheat you to stop you from scoring or to score.

Players hands will go through other players arms and body to block a shot and no foul yet a clean block will sometimes be a foul.

I don't know how many bad animations in 2K12 that are fouls when the defender never touches the player; steals, blocks, or shooting fouls.

Blocking fouls are really bad in 2K12; lack of charges makes for more blocking fouls.

Huh? That's not reality at all. I think you misread my comment. When I say that they look like they get clobbered I mean the defender damn near Artests the ball handler. I'm gonna have to agree with the people saying it's random. And I hate messing with the sliders because I feel like I'm tweaking it to my advantage. Besides, I don't think this is something that should be "tweaked". What looks to be clearly a foul should be a foul IMO.
